I love the warm ochre colour of the cafe and the dappled shade coming through.

Your comment about loving the painting aspect of it, is something I try to convey to others. to actually sit down infront of a blank canvas in a quiet landscape setting for me is pure heaven for the day. The end result is a bonus, its the taking part.

BTW take no notice of our resident art critique El Dellingio., he neither looks or sounds like Brian Sewell,

    What's a rigger brush?

Is that what caused all those drips on that ghastly giraffe?

    Acrylics

    Pastels

Then there is a whole array of knives , some to mix some to paint with

Just a small selection of the many available

Super super hobby , with many choices of weapons to help us achieve on the canvas what e have in our heads

B2S or is it B2B in Central Malls generally has a reasonable selection in the art section. All are synthetic though... A good rigger is made from sable ( doesn't have to be the expensive sable), sable holds a lot more paint than the synthetics allowing a longer stroke without recharging.

I get mine from Ken Bromley in England... not very expensive and their service is outstanding.... most items are here in Udon within 5 -6 days and they ship via British Post.

    Hope this helps

Seems the Muse has returned after a lengthy hiatus... just ordered a slew of new Liquitex paints and some new brushes...

Ahhhhh the trials of a paint and brush monger still lingers...

addiction defined.... after the above post I took a quick inventory of paints and brushes...

almost 100 brushes of varying quality and uses... most ordered as 'sets'. Covering just about everything from Hake brushes to a plethora of "rigger" types (hard to find a rigger that suits your style). about half are water color only, wash brushes and flats of varying sizes. The rest are water soluble oil/acrylic brushes. (interchangeable with proper cleaning).

    Paints - tubes
Water color 76 tubes... cheapo starter sets, student grade, artist grade, specialty
Water soluble oil 14 tubes.... medium grade Winton
Acrylic 48 soon to be 60 tubes. all artist grade but 4 different manufacturers. Different companies vary greatly in paint thickness usability in my sense.

Various additives and glazing materials 5 or 6 jars tubes for specific uses.

    4 watercolor pallets
3 stay wet pallets for acrylics - one of which is a DIY type. Easy to make yourself if keeping acrylics moist for days is a problem.

Basically I could open a DIY painting studio lolol

quick bit of digi art on the new iPad pro , I know you should never wish your life away ,, but I really am looking forward to my retirement .

There is just so much in every aspect of art that I need to learn and learn , I feel the urge to paint or draw something nearly every day

This iPad will keep me amused for hours on flights to and fro ,, no more of those boring bastard films for me

Here's my first attempt at art in over 30 years.

Pencil outline then coloured in with coloured pencils. It didn't take long and it's obviously not a fantastic picture but it's a start. I hope to improve, and there's plenty of room for improvement.

you are one fast learner Nigel
Is the pressure sensitivity good on the pen?
have you tried tracing around a template layer photo yet = all the best artists have a little help.

    I love the ripples
but it looks looks like a Manchester sky above a Barbados sea ?
not sure what the solution is though, don't want it to look too colourful

just an observation not a criticism
    sorry...

The pressure sensitive pen is absolutley spot on mate ! When you tip it over on the side it widens the shade area ,, superb bit of kit .

No I do not use layers to trace around templates , I have never traced anything in my life , well not to go on and paint it anyway , nothing to do with art IMHO

What I do is split the screen on the pro and draw alongside the subject , I didnt do this in the first one , but I am about to set off on another one now

Having a go at a huge swilrling wave here ,, lots and lots to do with this one , so work in progress ,, I am not sure whether or not I will finish it in acrylics or change over to oils . Acrylics in my opinion are as excellent as they also drive me crazy at times ,, it definately is a love hate relationship with these bloody things for the way I like to paint .
