Sorry it's been a bit vacant on this thread lately but I have been busy.

Anyway all I have is a work in progress going on so I'll share with you, this is an oil painting I have been asked by my friend Ian to do. It's a memory of his fishing trip to Canada last year.

now as you can see this is at a very early stage, and there are many processes yet to knock this into shape to get it dry enough to take back to the UK end of March.
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Thanks Blue, it's a big canvas and the details need to be correct and as allways in oils lots more processes to go through

I've put that pic up as it has a major flaw in it, this has been corrected as you will see in the next pic I put up later.

It's so important to get these perspective points correct in any painting or else it just will not ring true.

It will be Interesting to see your update.

My first impression was that I wasn't sure if the far right water level / horizon, whatever it's called was correct, and if it would not look better slightly higher, maybe pushed up along with the mountain so it rested half or third way up where the mountain currently is .

But looking at it more I couldn't decide if that was a valid criticism, especially as there is a some camera lens distortion and my brain is a lot more fried up than is healthy .

That perspective is fiendishly difficult to get right or even tell if it's right.
Here a painting inside York railway museum , of Waterloo station in London,
    it's a big one 20 feet by 10 ,
I often have my lunch right next to it when visiting the city.
The clock faces never look right to me , though no one else looking at it ever comments likewise , so i'm thinking i need to study the subject more ..

Well observed, you are correct, well sort of.

Problem is he wants the painting as the picture he supplied me, however that bit of the horizon is fine, what's throwing it out is that shoreline to the left side.

I will bring this down into the water to correct it.

Now then look carefully again at the far side of the boat roof, ok another couple of characters have joined but the far side roof perspective lines now match the nearside.

A very amateurish mistake I admit, but them I am only an amateur so it ok.

Sorry bout these blurry pics, it's a Photobucket thing at the moment.

I will try and do a shot from the left hand side for you so you can see round the box, I quite like that view.

BTW agree one of those clock faces is slightly smaller, again I believe caused by another aspect shadow.

Unfortunately this hasn't come out too well on here, looks better in the real, but gives an idea of the depth of field achievable.

I've also been starting to glaze, define the foreground more you will see that in the next pics

Here we are building up the foreground to push the background a bit further away. ( hopefully )

Ok now for something a bit different .

Inspired by some pictures in a lovely book kindly lent to me by EG

I have done 3 renditions of the same picture in 3 different mediums .

First up is in pastel which like the amatuer I am I have painted on the wrong colour background.

Secondly my next efforts in acrylic , no excuse about the colour of paper this time , just my lack of acrylic ability .

Last but not least my watercolour of the same suject , happy to have painted this in the heat out here , I,ve learnt how to do it btw. Its not easy in these temperatures with enhanced drying times etc

    Happy painting !

Just my own preference, hope you don't mind me giving it , but I think it would look even better with more sky, perhaps another another third or say the height of the house added to top of the canvas , so the horizon is nowhere near centered.

Yes thanks for that Bluey and yes I agree with you and if I was painting it for me I would have done BUT

This was for a paying customer who gave me specific instructions as to how he wanted it laid out , so ,,,,,,,

Going on from that , I have a list of paintings to do now from punters and one of them is an oil which is quite big in portrait form with about 80% dramatic clouds , so I,m really looking forward to that one
