A bit of a change up... lol My sister's home in Mystic Conn. (USA New England) after a storm in 012. On cheap Canson paper (will not take any rework at all) with W&N paints.... roughly 7 x 9 inches... Paint one stroke and your done... no foolin aroun

My first attempt at a house portrait.... its sucks but she enjoyed it Well its at least hanging on her wall, didn't tell me if it was a closet or the bathroom lolol

Most of the white, maybe 90% is the paper.... the snow on the trees and a spot or two on the large bush is white guache. Lots of the hedges were painted wet into wet with the green and a light wash of blue (sky color reflected) for the snow just bleeding into the white of the paper.

Snow is kinda fun as it can be any local color as long as its real light. The trick is negative painting and blending edges to give that soft impression.

You might notice some of the shadowing is weird and screwed up. Didn't notice it until finished and with this cheap paper any re-work would have trashed the whole thing. It is what it is.

    I did not do this.

It just won the Archibald portrait prize 2013.

    Hugo Weaving.

    I quite like it.

I would stick that up in the lounge if somebody dropped it off at my gaff.

Phew !!!!!!!! thats a relief Loopy as I scrolled down and saw you Av I had visions of phallic art entering the thread .

Anyway that is a strange bit of work ,, looks like a tapestry ,, looks like a portrait of that nauseating little man on tv who used to play a piano badly ,, sort of thing I would willingly clean the dipstick on my lorry with

Thought I would try something different today ,, not the best way to paint in the living room with the light on ,,,BUT as its sub zero in the conservatory where the natural light is I have to make do ,, its better than doing owt .

I thought I would have a go at one of those really loose and fast Chinese style pictures , yes I know they make it look so easy and yes mine looks naff but its the first time I,ve had a go ,, NO sketching or outline just load your brushes up and crash in !

Yup I know plenty of run backs and cauliflowering , but if I can master this style with plenty of practise paper I might just turn out something one day worth putting in a frame . I really enjoyed doing it so thats the main thing

Agreed, I really like the minimalist way of drawing and painting. I think I want to emulate.

i should have took this guys photo, he told me on the beach today that he's an amateur artist, he showed me a few sketches where he asked me if i knew who the guy was, many were wearing fez's and obviously some Malaysians

His best one was The Rock, that wrestler turned movie star. When I couldn't guess it, he raised one eyebrow and looked remarkably like the guy.

    Like this

Anyway, here's his rendition of another "rock" formation but the fauna growing kind in Langkawi

    Whaddaya reckon Nige ?
Should he give up his beach bum selling watersports job ?

Edit. it did look la lot better than that, maybe if you zoom the pic you will see

Nigel; I would gladly pay you for the pencil drawing you made while you and Jan were taking a break last winter on an island. It was the one of row houses on a cobblestone street. I think you said it was a street on the island. Just name your price mate. I'm very serious.

Needless to say I was very impressed when I saw it. I really like pencil drawings. It's a deal. I'll have Kak cook a good meal for you and Jan. Enjoy Florida this year on Vacation.

I still think you should put up a small website to sell your nice works. It only costs about 12 quid a year for registration and hosting. Even if you don't want to sell it would be a way to let more people see and enjoy your art than a single thread on a Thai-centric forum..

Thankyou kindly Ralph will look forward to it mate ,, Florida will be on hold for another year mate now as if all goes well we will be coming to Thailand for 6 months to oversee a small bungalow build on Jans land ,, as you can well imagine 6 months off work + the cost of everything is gonna eat into what little we have .

Thanks for the comment QC ,, mabe something for the future when I retire and I can give it some time .

Sounds like Ralph likes pencil drawings , its nothing special , just a quick sketch , but different things appeal to different folk which is good to know .

I,m looking forward to seeing EG,s acrylic painting efforts

What are the vertical lines running through it? Was it painted on floorboards?
