Register a Thai company with a 2 million baht capital and get a work permit.

Yes ...and first thing, read the book "How to Establish a Successful Business in Thailand" by Phylip Wylie, Paiboon 2007, ISBN 1-887521-75-8.

If "an American restaurant will go over well" may depend on, where in Thailand you want to open it - should probably be in an area with lots of Amercans.

deep Dish pizza would be nice.

My experience is that most farangs are happy to eat a 25 baht Thai meal on the side of the road than pay 150 to 200 baht for a Western meal. Maybe once a week or every other week they will, but not often enough to warrant a farang restaurant.

    Dukes Restaurant , Chiang Mai

The best American restaurant in my experience in all of Thailand

In other words if the food is good, you shouldn't have any problem. I also regularly see Thais in there.

Funny that, I was in their Night Bazaar branch over Xmas. The food was average and over-priced, and the service completely shit.

Which is probably the predictable norm applied to nearly most of Farang restaurants catering to Farang.

    Dukes

The main Dukes on the Ping river is the best. This is where Duke himself spends most of his time. Food ans service here is some of the best in all of Thailand

The Dukes at the night market, I agree the food is average and service blows. Almost like the workers dont care

The one in Bangkok is the newest

Duke also came out with his own whole beef hotdogs you can buy in the supermarket. If you miss a good hotdog this is for you.

I always enjoyed the Pizza, Chicken Caesar Salad and other dished at the main Ping River location immensely
