Thanks for that info Taffy ,,,, there,s some good info here ,,, can I ask is your wifes UK passport in her Thai surname or yours ? or does it really matter ,, also is her thai id card passport in your surname .
I am sorry to be padantic about this , I know you state her married name but I want to be 100% clear on this ,, the reason I say is because my wifes thai ID / passport is in her married name ( previous to me ) as opposed to thai family name.

    Cheers for the help

hi nige.when we married, you must change her surname on her thai passport and her thai id.you can change her name on her passport at the thai embassy in london but i am not sure about her id,if you have a thai consulate near you check with them, but it wont be too much of a problem, when in the uk.my wife would send her thai passport to thai embassy in london to renew it,my wife lost her thai id card in the uk then got a new one when we made a trip to thailand.about the purchase of land,my wife said cant you and the wife make a trip to thailand to do the buying so its in her name, then it cant cause any problems in the future because it does happen with families, you can always change deeds to your married name anytime so there is no rush,if i can be of any help dont hesitate to get in touch.

    passport

sorry nige.i missed the questoin about her uk passport, her passport is in her married name, because before you can get a uk passport you must become a british citizen first, but dont worry about that if shes not its not important as long as she keeps her thai pspt.up to date for traveling there was a backlog in the uk for citizenship when we left 2009,so once again she has only by law when you get married must change her thai family name to her married name in her thai passport.id you can do in thailand she will get a new one.

Surely the best way to just get a usufruct in your name on the land bought in the spouse's (or relative's) name? Then you can own the building, as well as retain control of access of the land (with farang name entered in the Chanote Ti Din) for the lifetime of the usufructuary or for fixed periods of time (according to sect. 1418 CCCT). The land can't be used as collateral for a loan of any kind (safety); and you can't get booted off by spouse or family, and can leave and lease it out to another person. Cost: 75฿.

i can imagine how you might feel,

and your canal land sounds interesting ,

did you try ,what i suggested ?- ie - opening a 2nd teakdoor window, with you gallery opened on it ,then dragging and dropping the pic you want ,from there back over to the first teakdoor window , opened to the message reply box ,ready to post

like i did with your Tillbury dock photo ,
but then perhaps i'm using a different computer system to you ....

she can change her name to his, no problem

that does not affect her citizenship

the only time she would use her UK passport would be when she is not in Thailand, so it does not concern them

true, I have done all that, twice!

one land office said it was not possible when we went there, so we brought along the previous paperwork from another araea and showed them

they just copied it all and did it without complaining

Cheers for that Maz thats good info ,,,,,,,thats thrown up some problems but I am sure we can get around it .
I want her to have a UK passport that is the number 1 priority.
We have to find a way for her to own the land in Thailand with her name in it ,, dont know if she will be allowed to have different names in passports ,, seems highly unlikely to me, any way out of the maze warmly welcomed

    land

hi nige.i dont know what mazz.reply indicates that his wife could not put the land in her married name,my wife changed her name on her id.card 20years ago she has bought land, had a house built, opened diff.bank accounts and is in the process of buying a plot of land, even yesterday she opened a savings acc.for thais only,so what mazz.says is strange there are plenty of farangs living by me and they have not hered this, about the wifes british pass.she can use her brit.passp.to come out of the uk,and her thai passp.to enter thailand.then when you go back use thai to leave thailand and brit.to enter in uk.dont use your brit.passp.to enter thailand because you will not be allowed more than 30days stay.

Hi Taff yeah thats thrown me a bit mate ,, Im not sure if the wife can have a british passport in her thai maiden name ,, if she can then that would make everything a whole lot easier.
Yes I know about the entry exit thing mate ,, thanks ,, the main reason I want her to have a UK passport is as I have 3 grandchildren so when we live in Thai I want to be able to make easy exits to see them without all that bloody visa pollava ,, also we can travel to other Countries a whole lot easier.

    passport

when you apply for your britt.pass.you have to send in your certificate of british citizenship so the passport will come in her married name,i know it makes it easy to travel with a britt.pass. exsp.europe thai pass.holders need visas at a cost so go back and read all my replies to you as your getting yourself in a twist.

not if she has changed her name to yours already; see your marriage certificate

she can have the UK passport in married name, and her Thai passport, and her ID card. All those can be in the same married name

she can buy land in that name, no problems
