if you don't mind a small lie, then that is the easiest way

or just convert, all you have to do is repeat some phrases and you are Muslim

saves a lot of hassle as well
This is probably OK if you don't intend to live in Malaysia.

The problem with doing that and still living in Malaysia is that you would then be required to conform to the Sharia laws that are enforced on Muslims but not the rest of the community.

It could mean he could be caned for going for a beer.

I think you can do the same in thailand at the amphur, but it may have changed, you needed birth certs. (change of name certs - as most Thais seem to change their names like their knickers- fathers Birth Cert- a tiny rag that cannot be read -house book etc. and everything translated to Thai and bobS your uncle)

I think was already covered earlier. They couldn't do this as a foreigner has to get a letter from their Embassy confirming they are eligable to get married, which gets translated and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I doubt the Malaysain Embassy would give such a document to someone unless they know who they are going to marry. It is against the law for a muslim to marry a non-mulism in Malaysia.

all true, but as only she has to get the letter, maybe the Malaysian embassy would give her the paper

It is possible that they will not ask who she is to marry, just that she is eligible (i.e. not married already, not insane etc)

adding this: the paper is to say she is free to marry in law, nothing to do with to who she may marry
