Sunbelt is as good a place as any to get a business registered. They guy who wrote the book that has been quoted here worked for Sunbelt in Chiang Mai.

I have 2 companies, both Thai companies and one is 100% American owned with no Thai partners. My accountant registered this one for me and also does all of my taxes.

I pay all my taxes, including VAT.

Two of my sons, when they were minors, were listed as shareholders in our Thai company that is 100% American owned. They are Americans. I forget what the age limit is. I think 16.

I have recently started my own business. The procedure was not too difiicult, just the typical Thai red tape to go through.
I would suggest at doing as much of it as you can yourself, because with a little time, knowledge and Thai reading/speaking you will save yourself a whole heap

    OK - current status:

The wife went and got the company name registered, although I was surprised to know that our first choice of name (Minerva) was already taken by someone else. Anyway, we had agreed on a list of alternatives for this very contingency, so we got our second choice.

We've been introduced to an accountant through a friend of the wife - he speaks good English and already handles the accounting and tax for several other Thai companies, including the one my wife's friend works for. The rates we were quoted were very reasonable (3-4000 baht a month for a small business). He would also be able to help us with the registration, and has already informed the wife of some of the potential pitfalls.

One of these was not to give the accountant (in this case most likely himself!) any of the original documents from the company registration, as some accountants can then make it difficult for you to switch to another accountant later......
Any error in tact, fact or spelling is purely due to transmissional errors...
