The 90 day section is not linked to the general visa section so you'll never be caught at the airport and in fact I doubt whether you could be caught if you were to cease reporting.

Strange really, because she should have been the person telling me to report, or else, if I was a first timer, how would I know to do it if she didn't tell me????
The airport immigration people are not well trained. When I first came with my one-year visa, the woman officer gave me a three month stamp even though I politely told her 3 times that it was a one year visa. After she stamped my passport I refused to move and pissed off the people in the very long line behind me. She got someone to go get another officer. He looked at my visa, went to the lady and told her it was a one year visa. She wai'd him so much her head nearly hit the desk. He then changed my stamp. So just because one officer gets it wrong at the airport, don't think that they all will.

So, DD, is it now TeakDoor forum's policy to recommend that people stop 90 day reporting?

And to all those ex-pats reading this, do you really want to trust your life here to the recommendations of the bunch of wankers telling their "my mate did this and my other mate did that" stories?

Final point: 90 day reporting is not connected to visas, or renewal of visas or extensions. The only event that changes the 90 day report requirement is if you leave the country. When you re-enter, the 90 day count-down starts again.

Fact from the supervisor at the 90 day office.

"The visa section is not connected anyway to the 90 day reporting office". there is simply no way for them to know when you exit the country if you have or have not reported.

'Times they are a changing' Poolie, immigration are now setting up a new computer system tying all offices in the country together.
One of the features in the new system is that all info of an immigrant is available to them.

I dont know what a 90 day office is , but it does at least belong to immigration authorities.
I do my reporting to the same immigration officer who takes care of my visa extensions.

My advice is to not neglect the 90 day reporting even if it seems to be a ridicioulos non-important thing. They can't check today but will most likely check tomorrow.
Reporting can be done by post, just grab and keep a few extra of the forms next time you go there.
Or download the form in .pdf format from immigration website, fill it in, print it out and mail it.

There is no such office as a "90 day office". Are you talking about the "Immigration office"? Or maybe the "90 day report" counter within your Immigration office?

Anyway, I don't know why you posted this:
from the supervisor at the 90 day office.

"The visa section is not connected anyway to the 90 day reporting office".
...because that is exactly what I said in my last paragraph.

Comprehension not your strong point? Or do you take offence so readily that you start typing before you've read the entire post that has got you so mad?

Finally, you are supposed to carry the 90 day report receipt in your passport at all times. So at the airport they can easily see how long you've been here and if you've been here more than 90 days they have every right to want to see your 90 day report receipt. If you don't have it, you could be in trouble.

    So why take the chance?

Absolutely not. It is always recommended that all persons in Thailand comply with Thai law. That said, at times implementation of Thai law can be inconsistent. In those circumstances it is good to hear to personal experience.

So, while it is always recommended that you comply with Thai law, at times it is good to see how the implementation of Thai law can differ from person to person. IME, insofar as Thai immigration law is concerned, no 2 persons are treated the same and it can sometimes be difficult to understand exactly what Thai law is. This does not mean, however, that you should not abide by Thai law.

Absolutely not, I believe that anyody that is more than one day late on their 90 day visa reporting should have their bolloxs chopped off, plus also of course one finger or toe per day they are late, if it is more than 30 days late then obviously they should be tortured and executed, also if an immigration officer makes a mistake on your visa he should also be executed after several weeks of torture, or of course, the naughty over stayer of 90 days and more could pay the 2,000baht fine which is what most people I know do.

Last night I went over the speed limit in my car, and today aswell, should I commit suicide for my unlawfullness? Come on RDN people break the law everyday, here the fines are so small it aint worth worrying about, hell have a look at ajarn and see how many of those nasty evil english teachers there are working without a work permit, I mean does it really matter? at least the natives have a chance of learning English, I might add many years ago the King made a decree stating English teachers didn't need a work permit, but some how that seems to have been messed up, Hell last night I really have no idea of how many laws I broke, speeding, probably jumped some red lights, drunk and driving, assualt, lewd behaviour, and thats just what I can remember Oh, plus no driving licence, thats always a biggie so people break the laws everyday, hell I might even use a proxy server tonite to visit some banned porn sites.

I just wish we could all be such perfect examples of you RDN

Fair enough, DD, but I don't want any ex-pat who gets fined at the airport or stopped in the street and chucked in the local detention centre to blame me. If you can't be bothered to report every 90 days - that "3 months" by the way (for TEFLers) - which you can now do by post, then it's YOUR hard luck. And don't expect your employer or supplier of work permit to do it FOR you. It's YOUR responsibility.

DD, the name of this subforum is 'Doing things legally' not 'Banal banter'..
I can't see that anyone apart from you has suggested that it is a serious crime to miss the 90 day reporting.
But better spend the money on booze and girls than to give them to the government , right ?

Tomorrow I'm going to Surathani to pay 10.000 baht for beeing late with the balance sheet of my company.
    2 month late..
My lawyer/accountant says that this is something they have not cared about before, you could be 2-3 years late without getting a penalty.
Now the governement needs money and more than 200 companies has been fined here in Samui.
My advice again , don't beleive it is possible tomorrow to do the same as you can do today.. I could have had much more fun with that money..

My apologies, I shall go back to banal banter where I belong But this does remind of tv where every few weeks they bring up the "you got to have 10k baht in your pocket to cross the border", I mean in this day and age of electronic money and money transfers, the 10k baht cash law has been in place for at least 16 years and I have never heard of it being enforced, yes you do wrong and you will be fined, but the sums are so small they aint worth worrying about, hell you get pulled up in your car in BKK you got to pay PC Plod regardless whether you done wrong or not, it is just a way of life.

I remember one of the buildings we rented in the UK, it had no water, ie not a tap or a toilet, yet we still had to pay about 10k baht per year for water rates and our lawyers said it wern't worth contesting it, so yes all countries have foked up laws, hell some states in America it is illegal for a gal to give you a blow job, I suppose that's why yanks are so sexually inadequate

OK OK, don't worry mods I wont come back to this forum again

    Fucking hell RDN.

Is this or is this not a discussion forum.

I have never once been late for my 90 day reporting because the counter is no more than 10 minutes away and the whole process takes about 3 minutes. I wouldn't recommend that people don't report, i was simply relating an anecdote about a friend who doesn't report and has not had a problem.
It is up to you to make your own mind up.

    Hi ChaingMai Noon.

My only comment on your anecdotal post above was: "Lucky man" (to get away with not reporting for two years).

And "Yes", this is a discussion forum and I'm glad you've never been late for your reporting. In fact, I am going today and it's about 20 minutes away.

But quoting what your mate got away with and implying it's OK to do it and that the implications are never serious is not what I would do or recommend to any newbie reading this forum for information about staying in Thailand.

As Iom said above, the name of this subforum is 'Doing things legally' not 'Banal banter'.

There are postivies to all sides of this argument.

So, while I think it is correct we all report every 90 days like good citizens, it is useful to also have some banal banter for those who have not reported to know what "might" occur to them for not having reported, based on the experiece of others.

That is not to say, however, that we do not advocate reporting in compliance with the law.

So, can we now move on

I try and follow you RDN but you're posting a load of bollocks and I can't quite get your angle.
Are you shitscared of being deported for some reason?

The 90 day slip in your passport, as I've stated at least twice, has no relevance to the airport immigration. They are looking for a visa stamp.
Thin stapled peices of paper often become unattached and lost.

    Paranoia?

    What are you afraid of?

PS. when I was at the c counter I was told if I don't have a 'slip',to report it lost at a police station to avoid the 2,000 fine.

Also, I'd like to call for a volunteer to prove RDN wrong.
Next member leaving the country, please remove the slip from your passport, keep it on your person for piece of mind and proceed through immigration at the airport as you leave.
Let's see if they look for it....

OK, this is my last attempt at trying to get through to you.

I called you an idiot because you said "you'll never get caught at the airport". That's why I showed it in red.

I was NOT calling you an idiot because you said "The 90 day section is not linked to the general visa section". That's why I didn't show it in red.

    Get it?

And you are quite correct that I said the same thing in my post. I said "Final point: 90 day reporting is not connected to visas, or renewal of visas or extensions. The only event that changes the 90 day report requirement is if you leave the country. When you re-enter, the 90 day count-down starts again."

I gave this little snippet of information for those people who get their extension and think they don't have to do a 90 day report counting from their extension renewal date. Wrong! The two dates are not connected.

My only reason for say "idiot" was because you said you won't get caught at the airport. Times ARE changing, some people you know MAY have gotten away with it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Today my report took about 1 1/2 minutes. That's about 1/2 minute longer than usual. The guy simply re-stamped the old receipt with a new date. The extra 1/2 minute was because he told me how it was his idea to re-stamp old receipts and that it was OK in Phuket, but maybe not accepted in Samui etc. I could've stopped him as I'd heard it all before, but that would've been impolite.

Anyway, let's stop giving these foreigners anything more to laugh at us Englishmen about.

Another aspect of going to immigration every 90 days is that you have a chance to get to know the people , and they may recognise you next time you get there.
They can be extremely helpful to known faces..

Bringing them a kilo or two of the fruit of the season will improve their memory..
But Bangkok office is of course to big for that.

They can be extremely helpful to known faces..

Bringing them a kilo or two of the fruit of the season will improve their memory..
But Bangkok office is of course to big for that.
Excellent point - about getting to know them. They can be quite a laugh too - especially if your name sounds like a rude word in Thai (like mine does), and they make you say it a few times just to give them a laugh! Of course, it helps if you know what rude word they're thinking of so you can say it back to them!

Too true about Bangkok, Soi Suan Phlu. Always hectic. But Phuket... very friendly.

On the second floor you will find the 90 day reporting office. I've been inside so I know it exists!

Be nice if you bothered reading yourself.
After I post that there's no connection between the two sections, you call me idiot and then you post exactly the same and then you have the arse to say I've got comprehension problems!!
RDN you got to stop this posting while drinking bathroom cleaning products.

    I quite agree,

I stand by my statement that you will not get done at the airport for not reporting every 90 days but I'm not advocating people should not report!

But if you are worried in the least the 90 day job is no more than a paper chase in the wake of 'Hambali' and they don't have dozens of immig police hunting down TEFLers who for got to show up.

The whole thing needs to be kept in perspective.

Anyway, everyone knows I'm an idiot!

CMN I'm not glad. I'm totaly indifferent...could'nt care if you reported or not

RDN has a point that the correct procedure should be given, but this is a discussion forum and most of us here are adults with the power of free will. So I see no harm in talking about cases where somebody has'nt reported.

Imigration are well withing their rights to check you "90 slip" at the airport to be honest the changes are probably slim, hey if I lived minuites form the reporting place I'd do it it's only once every 3 months.....It would be nice to be able to do it at a police station but haveing asked in loads they have'nt a clue.
