when settling my monthly credit card bill.....
I have a Master Card from Kassikorn bank. I tried at Bangkok Bank but got refused.
I was told from Kassikorn that I needed:
A work permit that was over a year old and had a year left on it.
Over 50,000 a month
My statments for the last 3 months
A land line telephone for security checks.
A letter in thai from my boss confirming salery.
It was pretty painless, I think that thier sevice is excellent compaired to Bangkok Bank.
p.s On your mac you can access your iBualung internet services with a mac on firefox if you use the add on User Agent Switcher. It hides firfox and makes it look like internet explorer.
When setting things up initially, you need to activate your sms thingy so that they can send you OTP's(one time passwords). You need to switch over to a p.c to do this, but only the first time. After that you can do it all from your mac.

Still doesn't answer my question, why the OP needs a credit card, especially a Thai one?
Not everywhere accepts Amex. Why you'd bother paying to have one is beyond me.Originally Posted by reinvented
It's the sort of card your employers are meant to give you anyway for expenses.
Might as well have a Diner's Club and American Express in your wallet as well.
You don't really want to be taking on credit at the moment anyway, as if that needs to be pointed out...
Mortals you defy the Gods, I sentence you to travel among unknown stars, until you find the Kingdom of Hades, your bodies will stay as lifeless as stone.
I think the point he is making and that I made badly is.....What has a bank account got to do with having a credit card?
If you have a credit card in the UK and you don't have a bank account in the UK, or at least not one with money going into it, it doesn't make sense to pay your monthly UK credit card bill from overseas, therefore incurring transfer fees and losses on exchange rates.
A credit card is useful for paying for things online, such as plane tickets and saves carrying large amounts of cash to pay for items.
^ I understand that, I was asking the OP why he needs a credit card, and then why specifically a Thai one.
There's ways to pay for things online and other places without an actual credit card. You can use a visa debit card for one, then there's virtual cards.

Thanks for all the advice.
Bobcock was quite right, I wanted the credit card mainly for convenience, the issue did also specifically come up the last two times I wanted to book a flight. (had to rely on someone else's card on both occasions).
I have a savings account in the uk that I do not use. All my income and expenditure goes through my Thai account.
Also, would be handy to have something that I can use to get credit terms for some furniture and appliances for my apartment. Incidentally, my BB debit card has proved to be practically useless for this and flights, especially online.
I am going to think about trying both SCB and Kasikorn then (although suspect I will need to have the account set up for the 3 months that was mentioned before being able to apply for the card).
Will try that farang friendly branch Marmite mentioned in suk 33 then, as it seems it does depend on what branch you are in.
when i applied for my Citibank credit card, they agreed to provide me with one on the condition that I kept the amount of the card limit on fixed term deposit.
Shrewd bank.
I wouldn't trust a lawyer either.
they do a credit card also, not just the charge cardOriginally Posted by EmperorTud
