    Visa implications - criminal case

Does anyone know the effect on your visa if you have been named/summonsed in a criminal case?

I seem to remember reading/hearing that you are not allowed to leave the country if you are named in such a case.

If true, is that for certain crimes or a blanket rule?

If so, what do you do when your visa runs out if you can't leave the country?

Until the judge accepts the case, nothing changes with your visa.

Once the judge accepts the case and you pay bail, the court notifies immigration that you can't leave the country without the court's permission.

When your current visa expires, you have to get a note from the court and a fucking ton of paperwork to get a court case visa extension.

The way court case visas work is like this:

    1. You apply to have your visa extended. This extension is for 30 days normally while they 'review' your paperwork. 1900B/shot.

    You need:
The note from the court saying your case is ongoing. This may take up to two weeks after your last visit to court to get. Plan accordingly.
A certified copy of your original summons
House documentation. Rental agreements with the house owners house registration, house owner's id, all signed.
    The usual copies of passport.

    2. 30 days later, you go back to immigration and they extend your visa for another maximum of 60 days (90 days in total). This shot is a freebee.

    3. Repeat and rinse until your case is adjudicated.
