Amendment to Section 653 of the Civil and Commerical Code

    Dear fellow members:

Please note that in today's (30/11/2005) Government Gazette is published the Act Amending the Civil and Commercial Code (No. 14) B.E. 2548 (2005), by virtue of which (as the name suggests) certain provisions of the CCC are legally repealed and replaced.

In short, most of the changes being made to the CCC (of which there are about 15) relate to changes in monetary value to take into account the effect inflation has on the value of money over a period of time. Notable, however, (and the main reason for this post) is the change to Section 653 of the CCC.

Previously Section 653 read as follows:

A loan of money for a sum exceeding 50 baht in capital is not enforceable by action unless there be some written evidence of the loan signed by the borrower.
Following today's publication, this shall be amended to read:

A loan of money for a sum exceeding 2,000 baht in capital is not enforceable by action unless there be some written evidence of the loan signed by the borrower.
    [note: my emphasis]

If any of my fellow members would like to see the changes in full, please feel free to ask.

    ~W~

what it means is if you buy a round of drinks in the pub and it comes to more than 2,000 baht - make sure you get a written agreement from the rest of the guys that they're buying the next round, otherwise you cannot enforce your right to have them pay.

Or, for DD, if you give the bargirl 2,000 upfront, make sure she gives you a written receipts, otherwise you are f*cked, so to speak.

William you really do need to get some hobbies I noticed you left that gogo bar quite early, what I didn't notice was whether you were alone or left with one of those partial clothed gals or one of the naked ones...

And I think I posted I enjoyed it very much. To best honest, I much prefer the bar we were in playing pool to anything in Nana, PP or Cowboy - all of which bore me to tears

Exactly. I'm not a fan of gogo bars, either.

Hehe, I wonder why you all wanted to leave in such a hurry then after a certain person proposed to go to a gogo bar.

Except William who indeed excused himself.
