    Deposit US dollar cheque

I will soon have a US dollar cheque for a fair wedge of cash (about 10k).

If I cash it in an Aussie bank (yes it is depositable in a regular AU bank acount) then they will fok me over to the tune of about 10% of the cash.

Just wondering if anyone has ever deposited a US dollar cheque in a Thai bank account. Is it possible? Was it cheaper than 10%?

Yes you can deposit in the Bank of Bangkok, although they prefer you to have a Foriegn banking account other wise there is a 30-45 day hold on it and a 1200bt fee

Given that the AUD just dropped below 90cents, shouldnt be too much of an issue.

    (or open a USD account)

No problem, if you have a dollar account. I have a peso account, and also a US dollar account so clients can direct deposit checks and I can wire transfer money from my US account.

If you have a proper visa and a work permit, you can open a foreign currency account at Krungsri Bank. Don't know their charges, though 'cos I've never tried depositing a cheque.

I've deposited £ cheques at BBL, no ploplem, they said a month, took 12-14 days, cost nominal which was mostly covered by a better exchange rate.

Can't see US$ cheques being any different.

    Thanks for info.

Sounds do-able although the time schedule (2-3 weeks) waiting for clearance looks a bit difficult for a travelling visitor unless I just leave the funds in the bank for use on future holidays.
