    Airline lost luggage

I recently returned to Bangkok but my luggage didn't. I filled in a 'Property Irregularity Report'. The luggage was located a few days later and the airline have said they'll forward it to my nearest airport. That's a 300km round trip which I don't want to make. Is the airline obligated to deliver it to my door? What are my options, if any? Thanks

Hi Superman, On two separate occasions,my bags where lost on route to Chiang Mai
Airport from Europe, and found couple of days later and I made a firm request that
they deliver them to my home, which they did no problem, but I am only 10Kms from
airport, but I say their at fault ,make them deliver to your home.
    regards Worgeordie

I appreciate your advise Worgeordie, but how do I make them deliver to my home address ? They don't know the distance it is from the airport to my home.

had the same thing in europe happening...
but it wasnt far from the airport, maybe 30 kms, it was delivered...

when filling out the form at the airport, when it didnt show up, i think i could mark that option... but i was called at home and they said they would deliver...

Unfortunately the airlines luggage dep't say that all they can do for me is forward it to my nearest airport and I then have to take up the matter directly with them regards to recovering costs, from the airline. They have yet to reply to my Email and I need an answer now really.

In most cases, upon the arrival of delayed luggage, a courier service will deliver it from the arrival airport to the passenger at his or her home or hotel. Delivery charges are paid by the airline except in rare cases.

    maybe foreigners have "rare cases"?

but i think to understand, they will reimburse you for the travel...
ask them how you can travel to pick it up - by taxi?
    then get a receipt...

yes, if it is a regular airline. I think the low cost carriers are exempt.

Hello Superman, Have a look at this, I hope it helps. My 2 pennies worth? I would get confirmation that they will pay your transport costs, I think they will agree.
BTW, which carrier did you use?

Treat it as a day out. You get your luggage back and have a nice day out with a stop off somewhere nice for lunch. less stress than trying to force them to deliver to your home and it also isn't going to happen anyway.

I can see the other guy's idea on making a trip out of it and not letting it get you down to be a decent suggestion but in the end this wasn't your fault. It was the airlines, why you should be inconvenienced by a 300km round trip just isn't fair.

I thought at first maybe it was a budget airline but as it was Air France I'm sure they should help you out. I would start by emailing someone relatively important in the company (a manager etc) not just dealing with luggage guys at the airport.

Looking at the Air France website they seem to have a procedure for complaining about delayed luggage. I have gone down that route, but they're slow in replying and it looks like I have to go pick it up before I know the full score. For all those that say "treat it as a day out", what happens if you don't happen to have a car and the local bus service to the airport is non existent ?

Make sure you keep any receipts for transport / taxi / any expense that you come across and put in a claim if you do have to go and pick it up yourself.

Just tell them that your superman and you will rip the wings of one of their planes if you don't have your luggage delivered at your doorstep.

Seriously, I would agree to pick up the luggage as they have requested but I would ask for a free upgrade on your next flight with them.

Or free mileage points might be another option but make sure you get these in writing.

Went to the airport today and retrieved the delayed luggage off of a Nok Air flight. Have kept all receipts for expenses but still had no reply Email from Air France's customer services after 6 days.

After sending an Email to Air France customer support every day for 2 weeks they finally telephoned me today. Their offer of compensation was 150 Euro's in travel vouchers. I've no need for vouchers, so I declined their offer. They say they will get back to me.

Had a similar thing happen a few years ago when travelling to australia with Garuda our laggage got left behind in Amsterdam and when we got to Bali all we had were the winter clothes we wore at departure so filled out the forms at the airport as you do and went to find our transfer driver to the hotel got some funny looks wearing heavy winter clothes in tropical heat anyway driver said "no Luggage boss ?"
told him what happened he said ok no problem boss my sister has shop she give you very good price ! anyway went along to his sisters shop and bought some shorts and a couple of singlets and t shirts mrs got a couple of sarongs and thongs all for the princely sum of around AU$10 then off to hotel .
2 days later or should i say 2 nights later we are woken by phone in room ringing at around 2 am in the morning asking me to go to reception where i found a very very apologetic rep from Garuda with our luggage and an envelope containing US $ 200 as compensation for the inconvenience of having to wait for our luggage he even apologised for the amount given us saying that was the maximum allowed , no worries I told him its more than we were expecting (which was fcuk all ) so not all airlines are hopeless .

Lady that phoned me from Air France said that due to Thailand being my home base they were under no obligations to compensate me as I would have access to my clothes etc with no reason to purchase delayed items.

Sounds like a typical Air France attitude. A couple of years ago, flying from Bangkok to the UK, my luggage didn't arrive with me. They eventually delivered it to where I was staying a day or so later. However, my luggage had been rifled through and all the presents I'd bought unwrapped (and not rewrapped) - presumably by thieving, scumbag baggage handlers either in Bangkok or Paris. I tried to claim for two vases that were smashed, and Air France's response was to say they wouldn't compensate me because it was my fault for not packing my things adequately. I'm not sure, though, precisely what packaging is effective against scumbag baggage handlers.
