yes, they are expensive, especially the closed system type, although I think you could get one for about B55K

the trouble with the multipoints is that they can hardly cope with heating the water for a shower, unless you turn the tap right down

they just about take off the edge of cold water so you don't scream
Not if you get a 10,000 Watt one. Right now with the current cold I'm now putting it on 'Medium' for the shower. (High is when I fill the bathtub with taps completely open and mixing in some cold water.) I'd say for Chiang Mai the 10,000 Watt one is more than enough. Once you go up mountains then all bets are off, then gas or solar make sense.

WLL... What brand is it and where did you get it? Hard to find single phase multi-points in CM right now that are actually in stock.

I had trouble finding one too; It's a National/Panasonic water heater, pretty much the most common brand. Had to look hard for a 10kW version, eventually found it in one of the home improvement / building materials stores on the Superhighway. (Forgot which one.. )

I think I looked first at Noppadon Phanich who where out, then found it at one on the other side of the superhighway, so on the North/North-East stretch on the Outside. (So going in the direction of Big C and big C Extra)

Looks just like this, though current model may look a bit different. You use them with a mix hot/cold water tap.

yeah, I have one of those in my old house, but a 7kw version

It was Ok but the water was not hot enough in cool weather unless you reduced the flow quite a bit; maybe the 10kw would be better

They do give quite a bit of trouble, mine having to be repaired three times in five years, although only about B400 a time
    I have reported your post

Thats strange i see a lot of single phase multi points from stiebel, Aeg and Siemens ie proper manufacturers of water heaters. try 2nd super highway home sukapan near Mae Jo university.
As well as many others, home pro in big c extra on 1st super highway where carrefour used to be to name 2. I am going to trial Aeg 6.5kw which is only for shower and sink tap and use solar for master ensuite. From the insides of what i have seen German seems to be the best, reliability all are the same. The guesthouse i stay in whilst waiting for the house to be finished has an AEG 3.5kw its reasonably hot on high but this is the top floor and relies heavily on water pressure which is low. The solar os 100% the way to go, im just waiting till Dr.A gives me a reasonable discpunt for being khun chiangmai and fellow englishman.
im hot its so hot today.......milk was a bad choice!

Youve already told me its in pieces and scared a poor man to tears, i feel strongly that your kindness would not go unnoticed at the house opening, you get first dibs on the crisps and red pop.

Any Electrics on your houses should go through an RCD at your consumer unit/board at what ever Amp rating ,and then put the feed to that through a SAFE-T-CUTOUT box which is a ground foult circuit interupter, and will look at amperage rise to ground and between live and nutral and will cut out if it detects a foult.
Do this and all will be well and safe .

Thanks for that i have decided to use a twin rcd consumer unit and rcbo system. The rcbo will be for both water heaters, the rest will be mcb's on 2 different rcd setting out that if sockets and lights are split across thr rcd for upstairs and downstairs that some power will still be oprational. i might also get one forcthe cooker to isolate it from the rest of the board.
    Thank you for everyones advice.
