Actually, the frosting is impossible to see through, and who would be looking anyway? It's not like you book a hotel room to share with a complete stranger?? Some couples like to watch each other taking a dump (or so I'm told...)

    Open for business!

4 days after my 'City Resort' opened for business, (and with some help from me re the plumbing and electrics), my ex has opened the first room in her new little resort, with guest booking in later tonight.

There is sill a lot of work to do on both projects to complete them, but I'm happy that both are (partially) open and generating a revenue

not seen much info on your building costs yet and i think that costings would be very useful information for a lot of people including me as we have just bought 1.6 rai in rayong with the intention of doing a similar project .i have enjoyed your threads so far

They face northish, so actually not too hot. But it does need some sort of porch to move up from 1 star to 1.5 stars...

Over one year later, and I'll bring this thread uptodate.

I've been working in Myanmar for the past 12+ months. During that time, I (sensibly) did not send my ex any money.

In spite of that, she has slowly saved from the hotel profits and has completely furnished and opened all 5 rooms, as well as building a restaurant building and a large family room. She has planted many plants in the garden and now the little resort looks quite pretty and is typically fully booked on most nights.

Now she proposes to build 3 more rooms during next year's low season.

So everything is going well for this little business, (which is a lot more than can be said for the other hotel...)

Having terminated my 'sojourn' at the school in Laos, I've returned to Phuket, and immediately back to building work!

At the Country Resort, we started to build 4 extra guest rooms, to total 9 rooms. Today it was 38 degrees, and the 4 Burmese workers and 1 'farang' worker were sweating away in the mid-day sun.

I couldn't really get a decent shot of the building work. The reinforced concrete columns were installed yesterday and the Burmese are busy preparing the wall foundations. I'm preparing the mains wiring for the rooms which is hidden inside the yellow pipework in the centre of the picture (I mean the cable is hidden inside, not the rooms!)

I reckon it will take about 6 weeks to complete these additional rooms, in good time for high season.

My help on this project is generally out of the goodness of my heart - I don't have a significant business interest in this hotel, but there are some good reasons to keep ex #2 happy:

    - If she is unhappy, then her bipolar mood kicks in, which is not really a good thing!

    - After looking for a solution for the problems at the City Resort, (where ex #3 just lazes about and has improved the business by approximately 0% over the past 18 months), #2 is going to buy out #3's shareholding. This will get #3 off the scene and allow me and #2 to build the extra 6 guest-rooms that are much-needed for that property.

I've also got a small (10%) share in another airport project to build a dorm-sty;e guesthouse near the airport, (I didn't have to pay anything for that 10% share - it's payment for my project assistance etc).

So it seems that schools will be spared my teaching/admin efforts, since I seem to have more success with building projects.

I would like to point out that there is no #4 involved, nor planned....

So why has it just been advertised for sale then ?

It is confusing indeed, but you have to get to know Simon... he has numbers 2 and 3 in many of his adventures, whether women, hotels, schools.

Thank Buddha there is only 1 of him, #43 that is.

But he is entertaining. Sure he is. I love him.

Yes, my half-share is up for sale as one possible solution. The bottom line is that I prefer not to have to work with #3, and I can achieve that by selling my share of the business.

That's my heart speaking. But my business brain tells me that it would be stupid to sell out at a loss, especially with the good income potential after further rooms are built.

#2 has offered to buy #3 out, but it's not the 'best use' of #2's money...

There is maybe a better solution, whereby I and #3 continue to own the business 50/50, and #3 continues to run the business as before. #2 finances the extra room build costs, and then recoups her investment (plus interest) from the increased business revenues. Then I would own 50% of a 9-room hotel and would have a decent income stream, without being 'close' to #3.

I'm really sorry that there's no news about #4. Does anyone have any candidates fro this role? (Photos required!).

It's been about a week since work commenced on building 4 extra guest rooms on this project.

This is a photo taken from the rear of the project. The building on the left side provides 2 guest-rooms, with rear windows that look over the adjacent field (which will soon also be a building site for my own little hotel project.

The building in the center is a family guest-room that was built a few months ago but never completed. Now the roof has been removed from that building and the roof of the new building extended over that existing building. In the space between that existing building and the other building on the right side, we'll construct another guest-room. So the final layout of guest-rooms will be L-shaped, with the 5 existing rooms on the right side and 4 new rooms in the foreground. (Those new rooms have cheap and large concrete tiles on the rear part of the roof which is not visible to guests - the front roof is tiled using more expensive and attractive tiles).

My temporary ham radio antenna is just to the right of centre of the picture. This hotel is located among the rubber trees, about 2 km behind Nai Yang beach.

Fuk me, that'd be worth booking a seat to watch the Greek Tragedy unfold...
