That's just a straight drain then with no trap.Originally Posted by Travelmate

If that don't work then have a look at fitted an extractor fan with air blowing INTO the bathroom
That will make sure that air only goes down the drain and smells don't come up
Block the pipe outlet and fill with water. Then get caustic soda and pour into the water. Leave over night and flush through the next morning. If no caustic soda get a pressure washer, push it into the waste pipe as far as possible, seal around gun with a cloth and switch on. Move the gun around as best possible to dislodge debris stuck to sides of the pipe. Katcher actually do an attachment for the specific purpose of drain cleaning.
Death is natures way of telling you to slow down.
Yes...many types. The picture posted is just to give you a general idea. Some makers don't use plastic sauces prefering metal instead. The important thing to look for when you are buying is that they use the principle of water to form a barrier from smells coming up from the drain. Fitting them will probably involve knocking out the surrounding ceramic tile and possibly a bit of cement. It is very important to get this fitted properly if its going in an upstairs bathroom as if it is badly fitted and leaks you can expect a blotch to appear on the ceiling below. Still, as I said , no big deal for any competant plumber and not expensive either.
There are various solutions here mate
Sewage smell in shower...
After cleaning it put some moth balls over the drain, works like a charm.
I can't remember if you live in an appartment/condo or a house but as the shower should feed into a grey water sump check with the other building occupants if they are also having problems.
Maybe the sump/ pit is blocked or sometimes the building engineers feed the shower water in with the sewerage and that becomes blocked or full. The shit fills up past the venting pipe and the smell can only come up through the drain.
If the shower water is still draining away quickly (meaning the drain filter is not blocked) I would suggest a full tank could be your problem and good luck with it.

try tsicar's TWO-STEP remedy:
1) don't let the thais use your bathroom.
2) tell the maid that if she takes a dump in your shower ever again, she is fired!
easy!
i am willing to bet that you only have a farang style flush toilet, and the fukkers are squatting over the shower drain instead of having to suffer the humility of having to take a civilised dump on a proper toilet.

Had a similar problem a few years ago
Caused during the monsoon season
Ground was saturated and the outlet of the septic tank was below the water table for the garden
A couple of bags of caustic ( soda fee ??)was a temporary cure but had to wait till the rains stopped before things got back to normal .
Well the maid came back with "Mr Muscle" from the supermarket. Bottle was yellow and shaped like a U bend you get under a sink. Since everything was written in Thai. I was left at the mercy of the Maid pouring this liquid down the drain in the shower.
Anyhooter in the morning the smell was not there. But when taking a shower water drains painfully slow
doubled

That don't make any sense at all. After putting chemical down, now the water is draining slowerOriginally Posted by Travelmate
I reckon you got loads of hair down there. Thai girls moult like mad
^ You're correct in your observation.
The plumber is in today to give it his best shot.
He told maid "Farang always make drains smelly"
Have you tried pouring a cup of ordinary ammonia bleach down the culprit drain and letting it set overnight?
That's done the trick for me a time or two. Most larger grocery stores have it.
Well the plumber been and gone.
Observation from my early morning refreshing shower.
No smell.
Water draining away in a timely fashion.
So for day one. I am happy.
Baking soda and vinegar cleans and deodorize
Well what was his solution ?Originally Posted by Travelmate
