Where can you buy balsa wood in Thailand?
Super cool thread! I thought model cars or airplanes but was pleasantly surprised with this one!
Johpam-time taken so far is about 14 hours. some of that is just looking at the drawings to get the feel for them.
Goblin- im not sure where to buy in thailand, maybe could buy online if you cant find it. postage would be cheap
There is/was a model shop up Suk Soi 23 (Bangkok). Turn right at Guisto and follow the road left after Pegasus. It is/was on the right.
For the dyslexic its globin not goblin
From past experiences, coconut palm trunks cut into 4 x 4's with a chain saw and allowed to dry (cure) will offer a reasonable substitute. After curing they can be cut into useable sizes. Still not balsa wood but hey TIT not auz.
Happy modelling

ok had a busy couple of hours today after school.
heres the nephew, doing the complicated calculations for the roof lengths.
some greek dude came up with the idea, and he seemed to know what he was talking about.
the walls have been finished and glued to the floor plan.
this keeps it all squareish
2 of the roof planes are ready and pre glued in place.
once the glue has nearly dried the 2 planes are pulled together and stuck in the middle. more tomorrow after his footy match.and maccas.
ok first section of the roof is complete, and as you can see from the second pic, its removeable.
carport and garage section next.
back to this thread after a while away,
the carport and garage roof have been completed,
if there are any gaps in the joints then sand down some of the wood and mix it with some glue, and simply fillin the holes.
this is a good way of filling gaps or holes in floor boards also but use PVA glue.
Looks like a fun project, and the house is neat
how are you going to get yourself scaled down to fit?
hahaha
havnt worked that one out yet.
Nice one splidlid, I remember my Dad doing something vaguely similar years, and years, ago. He was an accountant and could do the maths in his head.
Love to see your project finished.

cheers mate, will get back on it next week, sisters garden is begging. and she wants to put her house on d market, so gotta get it done.
ok its been a while, but its time to fnish off this thread over the next few days.
will get it done and then set it up with the lighting and background for best effect.
now all the roof is nearly complete with just a few pieces required.the paraphets are nearly complete also and all feature columns have been placed.
ok so the model is complete, have used a blue cloth for the background, and a table lamp in some for shadow effect
sorry for poor picture quality, done on i-phone.
Thanks Splitlid it looks nice.
Did your nephew finish it or did you get lumbered with it?
Cheers johpam
i had to finish it off myself as the little bugger went to the gold coast for his holiday. and as i leave tomorrow i had to finish it off as i dont think it would survive in my suitcase.
Are you going to leave instuction on finishing off like painting and maybe landscapping or will he just dump it in the rubbishbin after you leave.
^hey theres a couple of straight walls in there.
Johpam- the model is safe in my house ready to gather dust until i return. i do like the idea of blowing it up and catching it on video. all special effected like.
will maybe do that when i get back..................
What did you use for glue? I've been making models for bamboo building using skewers and super glue. We've built one place using a model and no plan.
Considering the plan reading skills of Thai construction workers aren't that great, having a model would help prevent costly mistakes.
It could be a good idea to have the builder help make the model, so you could be sure he understood everything.
Can also use Styrofoam. Most all architectural models are made from it.Originally Posted by globin
