Thanks MM, This has been about a year and half now but honestly the main house was done in less than a year. I guess house projects are never really done.
The yellow conduit used is the new product from Australia, we will see. Its thick walled. There are no splices in the wire. I watched and insisted. That's what made it so hard for them to pull it through.
We finally got our custom SST gate installed. They came Monday. Its electric opener from outside, sensor opening inside. 2 remotes for cars and a wireless set up at the house. some comments, one thing to keep in mind if you install a gate, make sure the bottom guide is SST. Many will put regular old angle iron which will rust away.
I think one mistake I made when I designed the house with my wife was the closet area. I (we) didn't consider built in closets. As most know that is not typical. just something to think about if you are just starting a build.
With that said my wife and I sat and came up with a plan on what we wanted to add. We had access to thick Teak planks and other Teak wood. So we went and saw the old guy that did all our doors, accents and trimming. We showed him the area we want to fill and add a Teak built in closet. Tanarat came out and measured and went back to his shop. Tanarat has been a Teakwood craftsman over 50 years, he is 71 years now. He drafted up a few sketches and we liked them so he started the build. 4 days ago my wife went and saw him to drop off handles and he said that our closet is his last build, he wants to retire and relax. I feel very lucky that Tanarat has become my friend. His craftsmanship is excellent.
Today my wife went and saw him and he planed some teak planks and built the frame area. He said this Closet will be incredibly heavy and strong.
Below is a progress pic. It will have engraved doors and be stained dark to match house and bedroom set.

Simply amazes me what the Farangs in Thailand can do house building wise.
Bloody brilliant stuff.
Most excellent, one of the best ones I've seen on TD.
To live like that, here, you would have to be a millionaire.
Great thread and pics.
That is a mighty fine house you have there, i would be happy to have something similar in the future.
Will he be putting it together on site?
Hey Terry, good to hear from you. You know there are many elements to doing what you want in Thailand but 2 key points for a house build are 1) having a solid plan and do your homework, 2) A wonderful wife that can project manage. Speaking for myself, I was extremely fortunate because of all the family support. My FIL was paramount in this with contractor skills and his connections, my SIL coming up from BKK to stay at the place and chase stuff while we were both in the US. My BIL who took care of their daughter while his wife was up helping us. It was clearly a family affair. Sure I supplied the bulk of the cash but I had no issues, it was all part of the plan.Originally Posted by terry57
Thanks Mathos. I enjoyed the project very much. We have a few more things to do.Originally Posted by Mathos
Well there have been some other beautiful places built by TD members but Thank YouOriginally Posted by Dead Metal
If you mean a millionaire in the states...Definitely. Of course depends on what part of the US. But in states I would have wanted to live indeed.
Cheers CCC, I hope to see a build thread from you on your place.Originally Posted by Chittychangchang
Yes he will he will bring it in 4 sections, with doors off, drawers out etc. He will spend 2 or 3 days installing it. Its a permanent install. He started fabricating the doors and my wife will take him some more teak she picked up near our home from an old house that was torn down. I figure another month or so. We are not rushing him. He said he will build it to last.Originally Posted by runker

I finally got a break from work and drove back home. I met with Tanarat at the hardware store with my wife. He wanted to discuss hardware.
In so many cases Thai's are looking to keep it low cost. However when I talked to Tanarat I said I do not want cheap drawer runners with white plastic wheels that break in 2 months. it would be a shame to build such a nice piece and put shit hardware.
I thought I would post the pics of the drawer hardware for others if they are considering it.
This is the typical drawer hardware. very flimsy, plastic wheels. Price is 77 baht.
This is SST with full ball bearing. Price is 370 baht.
When Tanarat and I talked he got a big smile when I said to use the SST ball bearing units. He too knows the other stuff is utter crap. You truly will get what you pay for.
^ It's going to be a great piece.
Good tip mate, I have a number of drawers yet to be made for my home, thanks
Exactly why all their stuff lasts three minutes and is then bodged up.
On the other hand many of us Farang are cashed up and can afford to buy top quality items where many Thais do not have the financial means to go up market.
Hence they buy shite and live with it.
Way it is innit.
Really informative thread mate, Thanks.
Nice thread, great looking place.
Someday I may build a wall around the compound, no need at the moment. I've seen a few traveling gates that have a smaller gate to the side for foot trafic. That may suit our need as the sisters walk to the farm from town.
Again your place is looking good. I presume their is an intercom at the gate for visiters to page for entrance.
That would be the box to the left I presume.
Glad to help M. Trust me, you will be happy later you bought the good drawer runners.Originally Posted by FatOne
As you know Terry, The folks here do what they can with the means they have available. It is as you said...The way it isOriginally Posted by terry57

The box you see is our mail box. Off to the side is a blue tooth doorbell. But you know. We can see everything and we do not get unannounced visitors. The folks that own the corner house at the very front of the soi have 2 dogs that bark when someone comes down. That's our doorbell. I like it.
