Was quoted 18,000 Baht for a 5" bore, water guaranteed, no pump included. Is that a good price?

    Depends how deep they'll drill.

For just a 3 meter deep hole in the ground it would be a bit excessive...

^Depends upon how deep they bore. Mine is 30m but I wish I would have gone 40m. I paid 3500 baht in Sangkha, Surin.

That I agree on. They should drill to their maximum even if they hit water at 3m.

Is that number right, 3,500 baht to bore a well 30 meters, or is it 35,000 baht?

I don't live too far away but it's currently 15,000 and upwards, depending on bore size and depth. I'm struggling to find a contractor due to their present workload.

A good friend of mine had a bore done over 12 years ago (34 metre's) and even then it cost 11,000 baht with the pump and fittings , 3,500 seems some what low to me .

Oh, now we are comparing it to a price with pump and fittings? My Mitsan pump with all the fittings cost 8000 baht.

The price I stated was only for boring the well. Pump, pvc and fittings were extra. You got a hellofa deal Humbert.

Not much good in having a bore done unless you have the pump and fittings but your complete price compares favourably with the going price today.

Rick I think you should shop around , cos I have got a guy standing right at my side who had a 3 inch bore done to 30 metres ,complete with the pump and fittings including wiring it up and piping it to his house water supply for 17,000 Baht Humberts price is quite normal when you take into consideration the price of his pump and fittings , I have just asked Jan my wife how much we paid for our bore ,pump and fittings almost 6 years ago the price was 12,000 .

I/we've been shopping around and the best we, includes neighbour, is 15,000 plus 1,200 for 10m of 6" Upvc pipe. No pump.

Agree, but have you ever tried to convince a Thai wife to 'shop around?'

I think it depends a lot on the going local rate.

The guys that do the work around Sangkha and Si Narong work off old trucks with drilling rigs fitted on the back. No fancy logos or uniforms just a couple of guys who toil all day in the sun. They cruise around and get jobs by word of mouth or just driving through little villages and getting the word out.
I had mine drilled about one year ago, I doubt if the price has changed much since then.

The same here Humbert. We had one falang here pay 100,000 baht to a big outfit from Udon. It could have been the kiss of death for me here in the village. I have had two wells dug. One at my wife's parents house where we lived for about seven years and another at our new house. One cost about 20,000 all in and the one at my house was 20,000 just for the bore and another 7000 for pump, pvc and fittings.

Looking back, I think we paid too much for the bore job, but I was told that was the going rate. Both times the driller came in an old beat up truck and old equipment.

Methinks they heard about your money tree What Humbert said about his price of 3,500 just for his bore seems right to me cos the main expense is in the pump and fittings
