Finally, setting concrete fence posts. Had to dig holes by hand for everyone. Over 120 total. Mixed and poured concrete by hand for every one of them. We spent a total of 5 days clearing and setting posts and stringing barbed wire. Then we had to return to Phuket to load up and return the next year. Still need to get a contractor at this stage to level the land and remove tree stumps.
(The wood stumps inbetween the concrete posts are the original land stakes.) We left them in-place where we could.
That's next.

Every now and then its nice to take a break from the building thread and take a journey off the build. Wife at the White Wat in Chiang Rai. Note the people reaching out from hell in the lower background. Excellent place for a hours visit. No charges for entry and not any noticeable push for pandering.

The Thousand year Rose garden above Doi Tung south of Mae Sai.
O.K., I'm out of the closet. Doi Tung Gardens Gravy Dave would be proud of me.
Old lady dwelling on the Buddha no doubt. Location at the foot of the stairs leading up toward the main Wat in Mae Sai.
Monastic retreat on the north side of the main Wat in Prachup Khiri Khan. Not to be confused with Hua Hin.
Looking out across the mountains around Doi Tung into Burma through the fog/clouded jungle. Amazing vistas in this area, you should visit it if you haven't already.
Back to the build. This is how the land looked after clearing. You can see the fence posts going up the hill. We are looking due South from the adjacent owners land.
Clearing the tree stumps and stacking.
Back hoe and 1 truck did the entire job. Over 320 truck loads excavated.
You can see the build up of soil as we continued the excavation. The old house in the background is to become our home during the build. 7 months in it.
Pretty much there in this view looking East. The dog is 100% construction dog. Rides in the contractors truck to all builds. Cost for all the leveling, excavation, and tree stump removal was 50,000 baht. all in and I didn't have to furnish lunch, but I did.
Last load. Look at that view to the north/east. Perfect!
This is going to be a very interesting thread, really nice area up there EH.
Some really good pics already and cheers for cracking the posting code.
Good luck with it.
End of another day on the job for me and the mutt. He looks sad almost, job ends. I tried to get him in my truck, but he wouldn't do it. 2 full days of work, one operator, one truck driver, one tractor driver and no lost time accidents.
Love the misty mountain shot ,, might have to wander up in Feburary with my paint brushes .
Good luck with it all , looks very remote to me
Yes, tried that one...zzzzzzzzzzzzOriginally Posted by Wasp
Weather starting to warm up then Nig'l, but still great scenery. Reminds me of the Blue Ridge Mountains a bit. Spectacular roads winding around and around, with sheer drop offs. Thanks Tezz. I hope the non-build interruptions are not too offensive for a building thread? I figured it would enhance the thread to sort of weave in the rural aspects, people, scenic sites and advantages of this area. If the readers object however I'll discontinue the "local aspects."Originally Posted by terry57
Should be an interesting construction Fred this one, glad you kept all your photos and got the hang of posting them, I never managed to figure out the gallery and just use photobucket for mine, looking forward to more
Well done ltnt. Nice pics
so you can just keep loading them one at a time into the dialogue box and when you think you've done enough, then write the subscript. I like the individual story with each one now that I've started. I also think it allows me to sort out the order in which I relate the progress. I can review the files first and then download as I see their chronological entry into the build.Originally Posted by Wasp
Next sequence will be the move into the Thai house, building the shower and bath for it, and other temporary facilities. Maybe tomorrow...If someone is looking through this building file for their own build info then I think this method will help them and eliminate many questions. I want to encourage people who are going to build by this process. I will also try to relate building costs as we progress.
What I've generally done is load in maybe 4 photographs and press " Submit Reply " so I can see the pictures .
Just making sure I've got them in the right order .
Then I press " Edit " and write in between the photos to tie it all up .
I've never used that " Preview Post " option though .
But whatever works is good .
Ohh ! I used the Preview Post just now and it's very handy . First time for me .
