I've drawn the pump room, generator and underground toilet tank separate but this will probably just be one well vented room.

I reckon the roof should be a lean too style running back to front.

If the pump/genny areas roof was lower then I could put glass blocks in the toilet walls to give some light.

Back in OZ I had a salt water pool approximately the same size as yours. A waste of money really as we have a relatively short swimming season and it remained unused for 8 months of the year.

But in Thailand it would be brilliant as you would use it for most of the year.

Anyway we suffered from evaporation loss and decided to invest in a pool cover. Besides steaming the evaporation loss it also keep all the insects and uninvited bities out.

Money well invested. Have you considered buying one ? The one's that come on rollers are the best. Also retains heat in the pool.

You have a great set up by the way, I imagine that pool has been getting a good flogging.

A used pool is a happy pool.

Nice looking pool. I had a walter mitty type "German Architect" in Pattaya build a pool for me. It cracked before even filled. Well connected chinky thai wife ensured i lost the court case despite 32 page survey report from leadind Thai surveyors

Lesson: so not allow idiots with poney tails and a taste for large bikes anywhere near your build

I am interested in getting a pol cover, just don't know where to buy one.

I'm forever topping the pool up.

At the very least I'll need a temporary one whilst the builders do their thing.

Once you have a good quality pool cover you will be very pleased with the benefits that it brings. After spending all that money on your pool the cost of the cover is piss all.

It will save you a shit load of time cleaning the pool, plus save you a considerable amount of coin on the water and salt lost in the evaporation process plus keeping the temperature up and shit out.

We had a nice one on rollers and would roll it up in the morning and roll it on again at night. In winter it stayed on permanently.

Don't buy a cheapy that just pulls off the pool and gathers at the end of the pool, pain in the arse doing that. Soon piss you off.

I'm sure your pool guys know where to source a roll on pool cover.

Now Kurgen let look at how are they going to get all there building materials pass the swimming pool.
Take a section of the back fence out so they can go though & do there work, good idea as you would not like one of the workers dropping tool, bricks, timber & what ever they are carrying past the pool.
Next is to cover your pool & maybe your sand wash area if you don't what cement, bit of steel cut offs rusting on your pool surface.
Last thing & no body thinks this could happen, when they start on the roof with C chanel, one slips of the roof it will be like a speer though the water.
The next thing you know is they a hole in the bottom.

Kurgen you can live with some rust stains or scratch on the edge of the pool, but a 6 metre lenth of C chanel sticking out of the bottom of your pool would be a night mear.

Sorry mate but , it has happened, find some fishing net 2"gill net would do the & some concrete nail, attach to the walls at each end of the pool.

When its time to do the rooflook at the angle of the roof.

Well....

It may cost a bit to do it this way, and I really have no idea how many pillars you will need (or even if you are going to use pillars or do a 'Nigel' style build) but my Sunday evening doodle follows:



Keeping your pump and genny in the same place but playing around with the bathrooms a bit will give you windows in both bathrooms (the internal bathroom window will only look into a utility area, but I'd not build the external walls of that any higher than the existing boundary wall so you will get natural light in there).

My guess is that the toilet tank will go in/under the utility area???

The utility area provides a sort of dumping ground for all the pool bits and bobs (cleaning stuff, inflatable things etc) as well as effectively separating the noisy pump room/generator from the living area.



I reckoned you could reduce the width of your bedroom a bit as it would give you a bit more living space.

You would end up with a decent amount of living area 'frontage' to the pool so you can open it up and use the little kitchen area while you are hanging around at the pool, means you'll never be too far from a fridge... :

... as I spun it around I realised that the two doors and small window on the left hand side made it all look a bit unbalanced, so reckoned that a neater look might be to take out the corridor door, and then put the outside bathroom in the corridor - you could always put a utility room door further down the corridor if you wanted:



Then just stick a roof on the thing.

Right, back to the Etch A Sketch.

Thinking about it I'm hoping that I won't be having an endless queue of pikeys wanting free board and lodgings.With this in mind I reckon I can have the lounge a bit larger so it doubles up as a man cave.

On my new sketch I've moved the existing pool pump forward about 2 1/2m. By putting a window either side of the storage area door (which I forgot to write on the plan) I can get light to the 2 toilets.

I reckon a 2m w X 1.5m window in the bedroom would be good.

For the lounge I reckon 2m french doors would be good. Also a small kitchen area with a beer fridge is a necessity.


Come on then, pick faults.

Can you fit around the outside so you can put the pool toilet door on the outside? Better than wet tracks through the storage area.

I can easily put the pool toilet where it's marked storage on the plan. It just makes it a bit harder to get natural light to the guest toilet, which isn't really a problem if I can't.

Thinking of it, I reckon it would be better to put the pool toilet at the front then I don't have to get the pump re-plumbed.

Any more ideas anyone?

You could put both toilets at the front which would give you windows, then have a door in the back of the pool toilet to give you access to the pump/genny/storage area behind?

Depends on what you will be storing and how often you think you'll need access to the pump/genny/storage area as opposed to the pool toilet I suppose.

I didn't think of that and I've just sat for an hour with the 1st builder who's going to price it up.

That bedroom looks a bit bigger than you probably need, in my opinion.

Anyway, it's probably a done deal, but this is what sprung into my peanut.

This is a brand new pool 1st Dec 2011 & has no been repaired to date & no water as yet.

Marmas, thanks for the plan but I now think I've decided on the final design.

I'm out on my quad 1st thing but with a bit of luck I'll get to my Etch A Sketch in the afternoon and all will be revealed.

You might consider have a more open plan... Instead of the door to the bedroom open the wall between the front two pillars then there is an alcove for the bed and a seating/reading area on the pool side... Make the bedroom windows floor to ceiling like the living area... You could add a sliding wall to close the bedroom off if needed - depends on how you think guests will use the suite vs an extra lounge area for your family...

Was gonna draw upload my latest idea but after a good few hours quaddind, I fell into The Courtyard for lunch and the rest, as they say, is history.

Basically I'm gonna buuild somewhere to sleep rather than the bastid sofa!

The LHS will give me plenty of storage space.

I'm still not sure whether to have the single doors to the pump room and pool toilet central to give a better look or to one side to give more room. Ideas?

I think the bedroom at 4m X 5m will be plenty big enough.

The lounge/man cave at 4.5m X 5m should have plenty of room for a big fridge and big screen TV.

Anyway, met with a builder today and agreed on price. The build starts Monday week.
