Sorry if this tas been mention previous, but what is the best construction of fitting a window. Here where I assume that you need to aerate the rooms regular during the day, leaving windows open. But if done wrong, BANG! draught just smash some!

mine are sliders.
I am very happy with their performance.
I've got some of those glass slats that you have to wind a handle to open or close.
Absolute rubbish. If it rains too hard the water comes in.
If you're unlucky the handle will break and they get stuck in one position. I agree, absolute tish.
Or install a steel security door which renders the handle inoperative.Originally Posted by NickA
The material is not decided yet. Start building this year. I prefer teak, but will listen to your advice.
if teak, then obviously hinges. or any wood, the same
Teak is expensive, maybe consider using redwood if you have a budget consideration.
the windows at the anodard hotel are sliders too.
well sliders and droppers
^ but i think that only applies to car door bullies like yerself and Nooners!
If I was going for wooden frames I would be sure to go for quality - Warped window frames sticking can be a pain.
Remember to fit a mosquito screen, or think about fitting one. Silly to be worried about opening a window in case they get in. You may also want to think about security grills - not sure how much use they are, but they probably deter the casual thief.
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!
I would go for metal sliding windows which we have in both our places. But for some reason they put wooden windows in the bathroom in the one I have just moved into. I had them change the frame out when we moved in due it looked like white ants had been at it. So they replaced it and now the thing jams
Metal windows are the way to go

Thanks. Sliding metal windows with mosquito screen and security grill is the thing. I guess that you can get this metal winows in different color, white and brown at least.
Ask CMN, I think he has them in pink or lime green
Certainly brown. That's all I ever see. With the security grills I would check them for strength, make sure there are horizontal bars or scrolls to give rigidity.
For one think I would never, ever make jokes about windows. Never. Also, there is a place for daft and silly posts on Teakdoor....And this is in the Issues Forum.thats the most sensible post you've ever written Danbo...and in teh early morning. are you sure that's you!?
