Thread: A couple of good addresses for home ideas

Hi all,

I'm sure we are all more than capable of doing internet searches for ideas from our homes so i don't mean to patronise.

But i'd just like to leave a couple of web addresses of 2 in particular that i found in the last couple of days to be excellent help. The Houzz web prompts you after 5 or 10 mins viewing to join. It's quick and painless and means you get to use the handy 'Ideabooks' feature. 'Stairporn' speaks for itself: 'Nothing but stairs' it advertises.

Hi Princy,

Was just quickly checking my e-mails before bed (as up at 0400). I'll have a good looksee tomorrow night, but meantime Google Search is just a great tool. Just fire in what you need and then trawl the sites that come up.

One of my sisters favourites. My online shop has had a few hits in there too which is nice as it generates a few sales.

I plan on playing around with the Ikea 3D kitchen planner for the Western kitchen in the little house we are building in Nakhom Pathom.

It's from their US website. Not sure if it shows up overseas.

Many thanks Steve! I'll have great fun with this when i get home from work in a week.

The company IT police here offshore won't let me download the necessary items, but the web site and instructions show up no problem.

What's left of my renovation/re-build is kitchen / utility room amongst other things so this is perfect. It's one thing to quickly go through it with a store assistant, but this way i can spend hours faffing about and getting things just right.

I've got an unusual layout in our kitchen area, with several big windows. I figured this 3D planner will help us figure out how to place things around those windows. There's nothing saying we HAVE to buy items from Ikea. We may use some Ikea stuff (I like their kitchen storage solutions), but if I find a nice fridge at a better price somewhere else, well then sorry Ikea.

This gives you an idea of what our kitchen space looks like. Lots of light in that back corner, but makes it a challenge to fit in all the necessary gear, especially cupboards.

That's a terriffic amount of area you have to play with there Steve. I, on the other hand bought an existing bungalow in the centre of Pattaya, knocked down all the internal walls, tore out the ceiling, all the electrics and all the plumbing and began again from scratch with only the pillars and outer walls remaining.

I sacrificed a large kitchen/utility room for big bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, living room/dining room, TV room, office etc. So now i have a 40 foot long space but only 7 foot wide for kitchen/utilities. As space is now at a premium i really have to make sure i use what i have as best as i can.

My sister in law is an interior designer at SB Furniture and i've also asked her for their own 3d programme for myself. She says it's a big no-no to give it out to anyone else, but if i get it i'll send you the programme.........

looks fairly straightforward if the bottom of the windows are made to be above the work surface height

if they are too low, build them up now

so, lots of nice stone worksurfaces, cupboards under for everything

no wall cupboards needed

At this point with PD House, I'm not going to go back and change anything. I don't want to give them any excuse as to why they missed the agreed upon 200 day extension. We'll make do.
After all, the real work horse (aka the Thai kitchen) will be right outside, on the east wall. This will be more of a show kitchen, which is why I'm not rushing to get it finished off.
I like wall cupboards and Ikea has a nice full wall cupboard arrangement, with sliding drawers, etc that appeals to me. And we'll figure out something for cupboards around the windows.
We have time to work it out.
