The video is in Thai but you get the idea.

What I like about these is that they compare well to a wooden knockdown. There is an outer wall of that fake wood stuff ( no worry about termites ? ) plus an inner plaster board lining. I guess you could fill the cavity with insulation.
Guarenteed for 50 years !?

Might be worth getting a small one for to erect on site and live in while your main house is being built.

When you show one of these delightful starter homes to the pennyless, non home owner bar lass she will turn her nose up and say "not swaaie". She may not have two brass farthings to rub together,BUT. Competition time. Piss poor girl from next village has Farange,and he built "Taj Mahal" Look at all the "Taj Mahals" being built. Need bigger "Taj Mahal" with more bling. No cheapie charlie pre build will do,not Thai way.

The timber houses look good and are cheap..The prefab ones look awful especially with that tacky furniture and the tacky occupants.
I have thought of building a demountable house here in cambodia where desirable land is expensive to buy and often not even for sale but only for lease.

An old poster named 'Aquaman' built a nice one in Phitsanulok I think about 5 years ago. Cost about a mill and he did a great building thread. I think it's somewhere on this forum.

Traditional Thai teak houses are prefab…!

So your statement is not true. Many prefab models are really only "shacks" ideed, but you can get "real" (high-quality) prefabricated houses.

I was at the Thailand Mega Show at the Impact arena today and saw some interesting prefabs and knockdowns I hadn't seen before.

First , the contemporary knockdown :

I really liked the little hobbit house thingy in the foreground. All wood, it ha a sleeping shelf one side and an inbuilt table and bench the other with a bathroom out back. Was about 250,000 baht. The big house was over a million baht but better than the adverage knockdown ( would need to be at that price )

Don't think wood would stand the elements as well as concrete but the hobbit house would make a good resort bungalow.

More interesting were the reinforced concrete knockdowns. Made in Pathum Thani then carried to site.





This one, 60 square metres, 2 bedroom at 739,000 baht. This price includes all fixtures and fittings ( tiled floor, bathroom fixtures and all plumbing and electrics )

But does not include transport to site , about 50,000 baht or foundations. An engineer from the company will come to your site and tell you what you need to do for your base. Once that is complete they will deliver your house an erect in in about a month including plumbing and electrics.

Apparently, you can adjust the design to fit your requirements.

Are they cheaper ? Obviously not. Could probably do it cheaper yourself.

So, the only advantage I can see is that you have a pretty quick build time and perhaps less chance of the builders disappearing halfway through construction which seems to happen a lot here. Probably wouldn't risk it myself but I can see this idea growing, if only for the sake of speed.

there was a guy back in the uk doing this it was on that program grand designs .
his was fantastic few hic ups when building but nice when finished .
he started selling them dont no if he still is.

I want to see more about container houses. Forget the site but they had some awesome looking things being done in Florida.

I suppose insulation is the most important thing

old containers are fairly cheap, then you need to add in the transport (and make sure they fit down your soi!)

Most if not all of those people who would want to move their porta prefab, would be those who have just found out who the wifes brother really is :-)

So where are they gonna move their porta prefab to ?
Are they gonna go buy a new wife some more land to plonk it down on ?

Also, can you imagine some farang finishing with his Thai wife, then telling her he's taking the dog and house with him ?

I'm not sure why the trend when considering a 'kit form' building is to reach for the cheapest possible option, using the lowest quality materials, with the smallest floorplan. One reason for putting up a structure that could be taken down and transported to a different location could be the prohibitive cost of land prices in certain areas. Renting land is a pretty good option for some, in which case, putting up a prefabricated quality timber structure with a view to possibly moving it in the future could be an option:
