Thread: Swimming Pool Company

I am at the very early stage of wanting to have a swimming pool installed at my house, I have read I think all the posts here on TD, and Google'd the subject for days, but I like to plan way in advance.

I have so far looked at various options and one of the best so far seems to be desjoyaux pools, but I am concerned about workmanship especially here in the North East, I would really appreciate any comments on this company based on your experiences, or at least know somebody who does.

I must add from my homework desjoyaux has a good reputation outside of Asia, its more in Thailand I want to find out.

Good you said you googled it or you'll go the same way as poor old Kev.

I don't know the mob you're talking about but don't write off fibreglass depending on the size you want.

Takes away a lot of the pain if installed properly..

Thanks Aussie, you hit the nail on the head when you said "Installed properly" because I am away a lot their filtration system is something the wife could deal with, but as I said my biggest concerns are the build, my wife is against the pool idea due to the mess and bad workmanship witnessed on our house build, seems like they need constant adult supervision!.

Incidentlly I am looking at a 8 x 4 build.

We had Navindra from Phuket istall a 9.2 X 4m fibre glass pool over a year ago now and as I work 28 x 28 the good lady takes care of it, very easy it has and auto chlorine feeder and suction hose etc for cleaning I would say it takes a little over an hour weekly to maintain.
Would be better if you are there when they install it as we all know they cant help short cutting. Took 3 days to put it in no mess .

That should be available in fibreglass. As HB said 3 days install. I would go with that and try and be there.

Make sure they put a lot of clean sand under it and get it level. Little mess, job done...

Thanks Guys, for sure I will be there when it is done, when I am next home I will ask desjoyaux for past jobs done etc etc so I can be sure as to the way I am going, I am in Udon Thani so its hard to find a good contractor, despite them all saying yes to everything, but what you finally get is not what was written on the box, I'm sure you know guys know what I am saying.

If I do go down the desjoyaux path I will surely do a thread on it with pics, we shall see.

Pete do you live in the city or in the sticks.

Guy i know had a pool installed, lived in the sticks and was sorry he did because of all the sand and shit in the air was forever cleaning the thing.

just a thought if you live in the sticks.

TBF Vinyl line pool only have a short life.
That price on the pump is a joke.
Good luck with trying the cleaner
Fibreglass is the way to go as it is quick installation time.

I put in a three meter X 1 meter deep Koi pond when I first built my house. It is constructed with concrete floor and walls, then tiled over fully. It has never failed in 8 years and has withstood all environments. Easy to clean and drain. I hope this is of some help.

I thank you guys, this has really put a new perspective on a lot of things.

Yes I live in the sticks, my wife was concerned about the crap in the air and I thought it would not be much of a problem, but as you pointed out apparently it is, thats one up for my wife!, I must admit that the SS fencing gets covered in it a redy coloured type crap.

Based on this I was at one stage of thinking of a pool house, but again to get something that looks good, built correctlly and good ventilation as I do not want a sauna would be a nightmare, I think?.

The information on desjoyaux pools was good, yes they are bloody expensive the quote I got was 700k and that was after the wife negotiating, my major concern they seem to be operating more of franchise here, in europe you get a 30 year guarantee with a nice certificate and all that, BUT do not believe its going to be like that here.

All good avice guys, right now I think I may just knock it all on the head, again thanks to all the comments.

When I bought my last house in Aus it came with a pool. The deal with the Ex was, you want the pool you maintain the foking thing, I don't want to know about it.

What did I learn ?

Smartest thing I ever did was relinquish all responsibility for the fuker. Total pain in the arse, cost us a lot of money with pumps fuking up, salt and other associated shit. It was quite a large pool though.

Also ended up buying a proper cover to keep the shit out, the water from evaporating daily and the temperature at a reasonable level. I'd buy a Spa next time.

On saying that if I was to build a house in Thailand I would want one for sure simply because you could use the foker everyday unlike in the West where it sits unused for 8 months of the year.

Especially in Udon where its 600 degrees every day in summer. Be well used.

The secret is to go small and use quality equipment from the get go. Go fiberglass or cement with tiling and install a proper cover on a roller to keep all the shit out and control evaporation.

Budget for a boy to maintain and clean it then you can just enjoy it without the hassle of actually maintaining the mother. You could do it when your there.

The amount of evaporation is quite massive especially in the tropics.

My friend has a pool in his gaff in Bali, its been brilliant and well used just for plunging and foking around.

One never swims in a home pool so don't fall into the trap of going large. You will surely regret it.

The other option to think about Pete is a jacuzzi dip pool. Easy to maintain, cheaper and ideal for when you want a quick cooling dunk in the water

the best pool is a friendly neighbors, no capital spend, no maintenance.
we got one, great guy and we use the pool every day its convenient. And it saved us over 1 Million of yer Thai baht.

All good advice guys, wish I had a neighbor as that would work and save some money as you said.

Funny you should say about a Jacuzzi, my wife said that to me yesterday, so that now looks like the waay to go I think.

I am still going to dabble with a pool house idea, I have what I would like in my head but getting it onto paper is a bit more difficult without even thinking of the build itself which would be a nightmare, if I do go down this road I would probably get a couple of guys I know from the UK over to do it for me, but as I said right from the start this is the early conception/planning stage, so will eventually let you guys know the outcome.

Any of you in my area, you are always welcome to a cold one!.

Just had my pool built by Pool and Garden in Udon!! Beware!!! 10 x 5m with a salt chlorinator, spa and swim jet. As I say beware!! Cowboys is the word that comes to mind

Please tell us what happened and how they fucked up. Is your pool ok now? I am also in Udon planning my house.
