Trust me, not my idea. The wife wanted it. The stainless was too expensive for my liking, hopefully no one hits it with a vehicle.

    Doc,

From the beginning of the thread I explained that tis all started back in "04" Many of the mature plants you do see to include trees were transplanted from my wifes other properties. As for the bricks I myself was not sure how to cover the foundaton. I had fancied tile then thought about it and kept thinking bathroom so soon declined.

    I am open for suggestions,

Makes you wonder if the contractor jacked them off of some estate in the Patters area

Makes me wonder if they will still be there when you get back from a weekend trip away...

Where is this place again and how much do they weigh...

just painted white seems to work, esp if you use a good quality exterior paint

but each to his own, others like them too

Swinging gates are a pain to use.
The hinges are wrongly spaced and will probably drop in time.

Why didn't you go for sliding gates ?
A much better option and can easily be electrically operated

No room and I really wanted the entrance in this corner. The gate normally stay closed the side entrance is wide enough to easily drive a scooter through it.

If the gate hinges become a issue. I will have a solution.

When the posts were poured 3/8 plate blocks 2X4X6 inches (hollow) were welded onto the rebar and placed centered against the form. Those blocks were drilled and tapped for the hinges. If the bolts pull out or start wallowing out I will take 608-L welding rod and weld the hinge blocks to the post plates.

It has been there for almost 2 years and no issues yet

You would only need about 2.5 metre to one side for the runners

we have big sliding gates; they are fine as long as the runners are kept clean

I like swinging gates but they can be a pain as you need so much room for them

Congradulations! At first, I was wondering about the five years... Then I thought that I've been at mine for more then three years and it's not yet complete...
Things go at their own speed, here and everywhere else, unless you are fithy rich and you don't mind paying 45 MB... And then again, there is one in my district being built for more than that, and it's been going on for five years... Every time I go by, 3-4 people are sleeping on the beautiful wood floor!
I like your way of doing and I have an idea of the costs, especially steel, which I used a lot too, although not as big as yours, my head concrete man comes from the mountains and never built skyscrapers!
My wife wants gates too, to stop thieves, and we're going to ge stainless too, a $1000 each. Don't worry about your choices, you're the one who's going to live with them. There is plenty of room around ypour choices for critics to look at, over, under, to the right, and to the left;-))

We live on the backside of the village, here are some photos of some of my wives land and what the countryside looks like. The National forest is 1K away. I get around on a CRF250. Best way to travel in these parts.

A swivel wheel on each door at the ends works great, and can always add a elc. swing if that was ever a concern ..

But difficult to retro fit unless the concrete is absolutely level and looking at the pictures I would guess it rises.
Usually an arc of steel is let into the concrete for the wheels to run over.

This company makes a horizontal sliding gate that will withstand a 80,000 lbs vehicle @ 50 MPH and stop it dead in its tracks.
