Think you'd want a door into the right-hand side hong nam from that adjoining bedroom so you wouldn't have to walk out into the living room in your skivvies going for a piss?

If your not limited by property boundaries I'd be more inclined to go gable end over the alfresco and 1st bed room ends and hip and valley over 2 single bed to tv room.
That way if you ever want to extend in the future you wont have to change existing roof line and all heights will be the same.

There's a plan somewhere that shows the area we have to play with. Can extend on the front only. The object of this exercise is to spend as little as possible.

We paid the first 50k to the roof guy today, so there should be some activity soon. He's also going to take down the redundant posts FOC, but will reuse the rebar on other builds in the future.

We're going to get a quote for the walls off him too. Shouldn't be too much as we're going to use the 65mm wide concrete blocks. They're way better thermally than the silly little red bricks and they're quick and cheap to buy and use.

Then we'll do the first fix plumbing/wiring, then the floor pour and then we'll see how much money I can save on finishing materials and 2nd fix items.

    ^pictures speak 1000 words...

So, you'll be looking for a new roof guy next week?

Is it only me, or do you also worry anytime you pay somebody upfront that you'll never see them again?

^lucky for you. Looking forward to seeing the handy work...

We bought a cheap condo (2 of them, next to each other) in Jarunsanitwong, maybe 6 or 7 years ago, the missus got somebody to knock it through and do some brickwork, painting, etc - very basic job. I told her: DO NOT PAY THEM UNTIL THEY FINISH THE JOB... Half way through, she paid them a few thousand baht, and we never saw them again (it really wasn't enough for them to fuk off over, I suppose they just went out and got drunk for a few days and were too embarrassed to come back...).
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Not sure about thermally better but better cuz Isaan "builders" use them most. Quality of the rendering is where you want to focus. I've seen some real shite. Uneven thickness, surfaces rough and cracks within a year because cement mix not right.

Rendering the walls is most important. I have no experience other than my own and I go with the pancake philosophy.

    1. To much water in the mix is easy to figure out.
    2. If one sees sand pebbles then not enough cement.
    3. If one sees cement blobs, stir some more.

This brings us to the dollup.

Have the worker scoop the mixture using the trowel and dump it on a flat surface. A thin pancake is not good, a tower is no good. What you want is a mixture that slowly moves into a circle.

In my humble opinion that is the best mixture in which to render the walls.

We popped up to site today to check on progress and am fairly pleased with things so far. The welding looked reasonable and the design was as I wanted.

They still have to add the bracing to the structure, but it will be done over the next few days. I am never convinced that a whole roof can be supported properly by a few bits of rebar, but it seems to work.

Despite being just over a quarter of the size of the original design, it's still a well sized house. Just as well 2 bedrooms will be kept locked or the MiL would have to much to clean (if she knew what cleaning was).

The first pic looks good, the second pic looks worrying.

Nice to see the build moving forward - you've wrecked the neighbours view...

    Neither am I..
The roof beams shall rest on the concrete pillars with the rebar welded onto the beams in order to hold them in place. Maybe they intend to fill up the missing bit of pillar with a concrete pour?

Probably, but I don't care as I shall never live there. Horay!

The neighbours are worried about rainwater running off the roof onto their wall. We explained about some white man magic called guttering, but I'm not sure they're convinced yet.

No worries it was a last minute thing, we grazed around the corner and I laughed as Jan wept uncontrollably from her spicy mix.

BTW, , I had the same and stood firm.
