Scamp, try to run Disk Repair Utility and do a "Scan and Repair" of the entire disk, highlight the whole partition and click on "Repair", shouldn't be too hard, even for you

should take something like 3 hours,

the worst part is that their scan tool will fail to detect anything, I did a test with a damaged disk once that will not format in NTFS or FAT32 under Win2000 but would without errors in HFS+ Journal under MacOS X, even after a thorough scan with the DRU

it's also a good idea to partition your disk into multiple partitions, separating data from system, and make sure to use HFS+ Journal, not the HFS+ Extended or something like that

Not denying some have problems, but for me I would never ever go back to Windows.

By the way, Google SuperDuper for a great way to make bootable back-ups for Macs. I can take my back up drive to any other Mac and boot up with my system and contents just from the drive. Once my Mac finally dies, I can be up immediately on a new machine with the same desktop/apps and files.
Oh look, an Apple employee on the lookout for bad press.
Koojo... Are you trying for the "Extrapolation of the Day" Award? If you only knew! I like the user name though... One of my favorite movies.

Mr. Scamp... Have you found anything on your problems yet?

Well that bit is true Arr'y I have bought one because after reading the manual on the operating system it seems to fit the bill for me . I want something I can edit/ archive pics / video / music with that is'nt too complicated for me. Reading on here what people have said about them it look's like I have wasted my money , allthough time alone will tell as I wont be opening it up untill xmas day as I then have a week off to dedicate the time to learn some of it.

BTW all my writing so far have been done with Windows 7 I am not slamming Windows or pc laptops , allthough I have had more than my share of probs with the updates causing conflicting probs which I have got hacked off with . Infact this laptop I can highly recomend for anyone looking for a replacement , ok I know it,s probably built in China like everything else BUT I think it's built to German spec , I bought it in Aldi's and it's a Medion AKOYA Core i3 3 gig of ddr3 ram in it HDMI port 18" screen etc I think they retail at about £320 now , or mabe even a bit better model. Had it just over a year and even with the full Mcaffee suite running on it , it's still lightening quick.
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Imagine how much quicker it would be if you dumped McAfee and put on something like Avira or Avast.

I'm not sure what you mean by "updates causing conflicting probs", but perhaps that merits a separate thread if you want some advice.
