cheap as chips. although the lad would probably prefer a nice crisp "brown" in his hand!!!
Probably right, never knew many Thais that couldn't do with an extra 1000 baht.

because people are lazy, and learning something new is not a priority

that's why 99% of users are clueless tards and all deserve an iPad for their daily computing

keep in mind if you are doing it yourself, you might damage the laptop and make it unusable

Actually Sabaii, Linux takes a little more understanding than plain old Windows, but even so, Ubuntu alone has about 12 million users.

Nothing wrong with having dual boot, so if you're travelling and you want to fire up your laptop or netbook quickly just to watch a movie (as I do frequently), Puppy or DSL Linux are rocket fast and ideal for running VLC.

    Horses for courses, dear chap.

Of course, when Butters mentions it, he's trying to pretend he's knowledgeable, when in actual fact he knows less about Linux than he does about Windows, and that's saying something.

Find out what wireless network interface card your 'puter uses.
Check the net for driver compatibility issues with your wireless nic and Linux.
Sometimes they get fixed if it's an issue for a lot of users.. sometimes they don't.

That's probably its weakest link, but most times you can get by with NDISWrapper.

I managed to get my spare netbook running Ubuntu with ndiswrapper but it's very patchy, I like the look of Ubuntu and it does take an interest to set it up how you want it, but without a reliable net connection it's useless.
Still have windows 7 starter on there though.
I'm thinking of trying Chrome OS instead, in the hope that it will be more compatible with a wider range of drivers, including my own.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

    Butterfly, I came accross this,

Is it from Auntie Butterfly ?

"I have a Windows XP system which has only 256 MB of ram, and unfortunately upgrading the RAM is not an option (it needs DDR, a DDR2 chip didn't fit and I'm not in town long enough to order one online). As you would expect, the system runs at the speed of molasses. It belongs to my 8-year-old nephew who'd love to be able to run basic programs, play flash games, etc. Is there anything I can do, short of adding more memory, to make it at least feel more responsive?"

^ so what's your point ? some tard doesn't know how to run WinXP with 256MB and that should be gospel for you ? do you also need to listen to a 80yr old grandma for your computer needs ?

I'm afraid any thread where Butters offers advice descends to the retarded very quickly indeed.

I would Butters, but unfortunately it would require the use of some long words, and would therefore be beyond your amoeba-like comprehension.
