Not flash buttons guys, just buttons that have had a behavior (swap image) added to it. Standard fare for most websites.
Good on ya Mockers...I can merge that photo if ya still interested.
I am specifically talking about usinf flash buttons to link to sub-pages. Look at the code for just one of the buttons.
Not only is there no discernable outgoing link to the sub-pages for the SEs to see but he amount of code to present one little link is about 5 times that necessary to present a simple link. This dilutes the page's content. Perhaps affecting where the page will place for given keywords. The page looks as if is has two only links. Common practice, or not, it is poor practice. If you insist on using them then at least place text links in a line of text ot the bottom of the page. This also gives people that have found your page and read it to go to su-pages without scrolling to the top of the page.<object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0" height="20" width="100">
<param name="movie" value="button6.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="button6.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="20" width="100">
</object>
If you want to present an animated graphic or a film clip, I would say flash is the way to go. Flash for links or content is just plain foolish. The links on your page and the actual text of the link are very important keywords for the SEs. Using flash to present your on-site or off-site links is the opposite of page optimization.
Like I said, lose the flash buttons.
Agreed.
I say lose the buttons, change the typeface to a non-serifed font like Arial, Verdana. Compare the readability of posts here on TD with Arial as opposed to the Times New Romanyou are now using.
Minimalistic is great, I can see you dont want to spend lots of time with layout and I agree you shouldnt - the content is what matters, but those two basic things would help a lot.
Instead, make your links simple, underlined words. Almost universally understood, and simple too.
So how do I get my web site on the first page of google, i'm no web designer but my web master seems to have no idea, I'm already on google ad words, I'm all a bit lost on this seo stuff ?????

Well my website/blog is still going. The movie Australia
After all the good advice on this thread I decided that most of it I either didn't understand or it would take too long.
I ended up deciding to just get the site address listed on a few other websites (ended up with about 5) and registered it with google and yahoo and that was it.
Even though I still am not getting huge amounts of traffic (that wont come for a few more months when the site will get updated more often as the movie actually starts filming her) today I did a few dummy tests on google and about 3/4 or my tests came back with the site on the front page of google about half way down, the rest were on page 2. So I am pretty happy with that.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.
is ur website down? i cannot open it...
Grrrrr but pretty funny as well.
Stuffed if I know - I have never been able to access it from home but always can from work.
It was working this morning. Will check again when I go back to the office soon.
So, is that Crystal Gerrard married/living with her fine upstanding fella?

All I know is that she left town in a real hurry!
