    Not flash buttons guys, just buttons that have had a behavior (swap image) added to it. Standard fare for most websites.

    Good on ya Mockers...I can merge that photo if ya still interested.

    I am specifically talking about usinf flash buttons to link to sub-pages. Look at the code for just one of the buttons.
    <object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0" height="20" width="100">
    <param name="movie" value="button6.swf">
    <param name="quality" value="high">
    <embed src="button6.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="20" width="100">

    </object>
    Not only is there no discernable outgoing link to the sub-pages for the SEs to see but he amount of code to present one little link is about 5 times that necessary to present a simple link. This dilutes the page's content. Perhaps affecting where the page will place for given keywords. The page looks as if is has two only links. Common practice, or not, it is poor practice. If you insist on using them then at least place text links in a line of text ot the bottom of the page. This also gives people that have found your page and read it to go to su-pages without scrolling to the top of the page.

    If you want to present an animated graphic or a film clip, I would say flash is the way to go. Flash for links or content is just plain foolish. The links on your page and the actual text of the link are very important keywords for the SEs. Using flash to present your on-site or off-site links is the opposite of page optimization.

    Like I said, lose the flash buttons.

    Agreed.

    I say lose the buttons, change the typeface to a non-serifed font like Arial, Verdana. Compare the readability of posts here on TD with Arial as opposed to the Times New Romanyou are now using.

    Minimalistic is great, I can see you dont want to spend lots of time with layout and I agree you shouldnt - the content is what matters, but those two basic things would help a lot.

    Instead, make your links simple, underlined words. Almost universally understood, and simple too.

    Yes you can. IN fact websites without pics do very well in google. Content is king. Machines and software can't read images.

    memock the site looks nice I like the plain look fits with what you;re doing. Broken links are a big no-no though. The link to "news.html is broken." If google looks at your own index page it would not find most of the sub-pages as there is no link to them that is machine readable!

    Get rid of the flash buttons Build text links you can use images for back ground but yu want text links on your page. The amount of code to links to the flash dilutes your Keyword density. They don;t match the look of your page anyway. Add a description and keyword tags to your head section.
    THe title and description tags are probably the most important tags in your document; things like, '<title>Untitled Document</title>' are very poor attempts at getting up in the search engines.

    Get your pages in order then look to gettng indexed. At the very least, the link should be in your sig. link exchange programs do work. getting one-way (non-reciprocal) links is better. Before you go after the SEs to get them indexing your page you really need to optimize the page.

    Posting questions here is OK but I, or any other web professional, that gets results is not going to give away all the tricks and ploys. Do some reading on the subject, there's alot of crap ideas out there but plenty of good info too. educate yourself enough to know the difference between the two. It's a competitive market and if you're serious you need to be prepared, or hire a professional (even then, a bit of buyer education is a good idea). While you are a writer take some pointers from your professional on re writtiing your stuff to include the search terms you settle on targeting. Expand your targets as you gain successes.

    Also break the page up, keep the first page more recent; age off the other entries, with a link to 'em. an rss feed is an excellent idea. Not using tables is also an excellent idea tables are hard for SEs to read.

    Use some "h" tags and style sheets to set their size weight and face. separate your style sheet into a linked file, it doesn;t need to be in the page source (dilution). Start researching related keywords that have less competition and higher search numbers use 'em in headings, titles, descriptions and the text. Build a site map & rss feed put links to those files in public directories. Link to them using text links Get into a link exchange program.

    You have a word to content ratio this is good but is your targeted keyword ratio high enough? 8 - 15&#37; keywords used in the text.

    Page looks nice, I like it; but getting to the "Top of Google" requires research and then targeting your page to your results, no amount a tricks are going to work unless you work on this important step. being the top ranked page for some obscure terms is useless if no one ever uses those terms. Before pushing yor page out there get it in order. Fisrt impressions are important even with SEs. Trying to overcome bad impressions is a time-consuming endeavor.
    So how do I get my web site on the first page of google, i'm no web designer but my web master seems to have no idea, I'm already on google ad words, I'm all a bit lost on this seo stuff ?????

    http://www.rosegate-consulting.com

    Anybody with any simple ideas I'll be very glad to listen, nothing to complicated otherwise I'm totally lost

    Well my website/blog is still going. The movie Australia

    After all the good advice on this thread I decided that most of it I either didn't understand or it would take too long.

    I ended up deciding to just get the site address listed on a few other websites (ended up with about 5) and registered it with google and yahoo and that was it.

    Even though I still am not getting huge amounts of traffic (that wont come for a few more months when the site will get updated more often as the movie actually starts filming her) today I did a few dummy tests on google and about 3/4 or my tests came back with the site on the front page of google about half way down, the rest were on page 2. So I am pretty happy with that.
