How do I delete Fake XP

I have a fake copy XP on my old laptop and want to install the original i have as i'm now getting messages from MS and it's slow the computer down.

When i try to install the original disk it won't let me as it says the current one is more up-to-date.

I have tried to format but like wise i can't and there seems to be nothing visible in add/remove programs.

    Any suggestions

    Thanks

You can use the fake copy just enter the new/real serial number into it.

I paid Microsoft and downloaded it right over the fake that was in there and it works a lot better so maybe it just changes some things, and they sent me the CD.

you need to do a low level format that puts the HD back to its virgin state ,a quick format is no good as it leaves trails of the old system and the new copy finds them and you end up with another bad instalation. It depends on what make of HD you have as to what software you need to do the low level format .

Ta, I'll give those suggestions a whirl. I don't need anything of the old files so i might try the boot and nuke job.

I found a step by step guide to disabling the part of windows that does detects that and it works like a dream again.

Type in the error message to Google, you'll be suprised.

I had the same thing, tried to do it and got grief, ended up just taking down the computer shop and they done the lot for a reasonable price, Never had a problem since so money well spent.

Get down to Pantip Plaza and the boys will sort it for piss all.

    Good luck.
