Sending English Food to Thailand Website

Now here is a nice little website a friend of mine has done, but how would you feel if it was a Sending English Food to Thailand website?
All those little things you may miss, even that congealed blood that northerners eat, do you think it would work if instead of wine it was all popular English snacks and tinned food and condiments?

Tell you what I wouldn't mind right now, one of those tinned Fray Bentos pies, cravings for a tinned pie, shows what a sad state of affairs this world is in

I was thinking of doing the same thing with foods myself. The main problem is shipping, expensive and could be unreliable at the Thai end.

I think you can guarantee once it passed through Thai Customs and Excise there would be added charges at the end for delivery, there would be no way that they would not get their cut or tea money.

In a word NO that is of course assuming that the whole object of the exercise is to make money. If it is not them ignore my comments below.

In theory it sounds possible, even mouth watering. In reality it would be somewhat different.

Firstly many Western `treats`, snacks and favourite brands are already available in supermarkets and outlets in Thailand. Yes prices are expensive, but people will pay that extra baht if they are going to treat themselves.

To import these western goodies into Thailand in any volume will be at the least challenging and at worst a nightmare and probably extremely costly.

An online import market for one off products with little demand would be counter productive and not worth while.

To sell food products in Thailand especially online the products would have to be extremely competitive in price and arranging the delivery if they were perishable products in Thailand`s climate extremely difficult and costly especially in outlying areas.
Yes it can be done, but the overall cost of the operation would be prohibitive.

Thaivisa tried this a couple of years ago and although offering a good variety of items they failed miserably because at the end of the day their prices were not attractive enough to persuade many to buy from them and the negative comments ruined the whole thing. Their products were infact sourced from within Thailand and still it did not work.

Good luck to your friend with his online wine business, but even here there is massive competition with opening offers for customers as well as the major market leaders such as Tescos offering massive discounts at the moment.

There are 1,000s upon 1,000s of popular UK products which are non perishable and not available in Thailand, why bother putting on stuff that is already available here? Is that the way you would do it?
That counters most of your arguements, as for tv they are just fukwits, george never answering enquiries about delivery and lack of delivery etc etc etc.

So where will your demand come from to make it a worthwhile venture? There may be 1,000`s and 1,000`s of UK products not available in Thailand, but I doubt that you will have the customers to make this a viable venture..unless you are not looking to make any profit.

Chai Khrap...I lived in Thailand for 7 years and now spend about 4 months of each year there. First visited Thailand in 1988 and made over 65 visits since...so yes I do know a little about Thailand and not just living in the West if that`s what you are getting at.

Black pudding is available here at about thje same price as in the UK.

Don't really think the english food angle would work, as has been stated you can get most of that stuff here except perhaps a few novelty items.

You know you really need to do your homework on the types of products that you have an urge to import, because even if you don`t the Thai authorities already have.

Decent pork pie- the local copies are shiite.

    Well thats about it really.
Most things you can get by with locally, and it goes against the grain to import stuff from the Poms.

    Fullers ESB

All you get in Thailand is Tetleys & other inane stuff. Hardly ever even see John Smiths.

Old Speck Hen used to be imported.

John Smiths and Strongbow are gone forever after Scottish & Newcastle got sold or something; therefore you'll only see Tetleys from know on.

Fluid Asia Pacific - Thailand's premier draught beer importers and distributors

Robs also importing bottled London Pride.

As for the one bloke I know importing UK heritage brands is Tony at T.I.N. Trading - seems the website needs updating and sorting however

Only OSH is available in Keg form, so the others can only be imported in bottles which makes it even more overpriced. Greene King have dealt with Thais before, so I don't think they want to do it again.
