    Playstation3 vs XBox 360

so which one should I buy ?

previously I've owned the Xbox - so familiarity means I consider the new one, but the 360 is not backwards compatable

and as far as i can tell most of the advances on the 360 are in the area of online gaming - which i dont bother with - and playing DVDs etc - for which I have a DVD player.

wireless controllers are a great idea - except for growing cancer of the brain - and u have to pay extra!

so what about waiting for the new playstation ?

is that going to be a bigger focus on the gaming experience? Cos thats what I want them for in the first place - everything else is just bells and whistles that I dont need.

I hate gamers and gaming. However I was impressed with Sony PSP

Saw Hallo on XBOX on a 40'' flat screen, was also very impressed.

I will stick with game simulator of 80s games

And those flash games of the 80s classic are so much fun

These days, you need to have a degree to operate those games.

kids can have abilities sometimes beyond our understanding.

As you get older, I find the gaming experience annoying and difficult. There is only one car game I love on PS2 and I might buy it just because of it. Crashing cars is fun. It feels like driving in Bangkok.

Try 'Burnout 3 - Take Down'. You get to smash cars, songtaews, tuk tuks etc on the roads of Bangkok, Phuket and Hong Kong.

Makes such a nice change from driving on US/Euro roads, tracks, courses etc.

Wait for the PS3. Although it's going to cost about $600, the capabilities are incredible. Plus, it has blueray technology that's supposed to have higher resolution or something. Comes out this Christmas, I think. I don't bother with the Xbox because most of their games are sports games (which suck), and online games.

Depending on how good both of these new fangled security systems are for the copy-proof blueray and whatever M$'s new dvd system is, the games are going to cost an absolute fortune over here, and thats if they have many.

When I first got my X-box out here, just after they were released, there were only about 3 games for sale for it and they all came in at about 3000b's each cos no one bothered copying them.

Ps3 will be the way to go tho.

Thats pretty sweet, but these things still take longer up here in the wilderness that is Chiang Mai. I still only know of three places that sell X-box games here and they are all of the opinion that they should cost 200b each. And the selection is terrible!

PS2 does have a wider and more easily accesible ammount of games. But it's going to be worth waiting a couple of months after PS3 comes out till they drop the prices like they always do because the specs for the machine are incredible. But then to actually appreciate it it all fully there is the expense of a big HDTV.

200 baht? WOW. They're 80 baht here in Pattaya.

My mum paid 80 baht in the night market to take some home for my brother.

even if PS3 price drops, it will never reach the price of the PS2

It was the same as PS1

You can still get the PS1 for $100 which was exactly the price it was sold when it was the main game machine. I am not paying fucking $400 for a gaming machine to only play 2 or 3 games once a month.

Fuck the PS3, only gamers would fall for it !!!

PS2's can bbe picked up very cheap nowadays. They have already dropped nearly $200 since their release price. Second hand ones are also incredibly cheap. Wait about 3 months and start looking on e-bay etc. The only problem is that they are very expensive to purchase in Thailand. All the consoles I have looked at have been marked up a lot compared to US/UK prices.

I bought my PS2 for $200 back in the US. They've since dropped, but the cheapest you'll find one for is $179. I brought it over here, and just have an adapter so I can play it. Don't have it modded yet - I still have one RPG I need to beat because I've heard that you can't play authentic games on it once you get it modded.
PS2s are way overpriced here. The cheapest I've seen them for (in Pattaya) is about 15,000. Ridiculous. I can only imagine what the PS3 will cost in Thailand. I'll probably pick one up at the end of this year, when I'm in the US before I head back to Korea.

Mine is modded and bought in Thailand, but when I had a brief break in the UK I took it with me and had no problems playing original games on it. I know that with the X-box live connection you can be banned for having a moddded box or copied games, but not sure how it affects PS2's tho. I try to steer clear of online gaming as most of the gamers onloine are tools.

lol - 100 baht a game! huge selection but NO MORE NEW games ! due to 360! bastards i'd have thought they would support the old xbiox a little longer than that! - and i dont think the new ones will run teh old games Whats with that???
