Use OpenDNS as DNS servers in your network settings.Originally Posted by kingwilly
TOT here in Phuket had reverse probs about the same time, I lost a long posting I was going to make and the net was down most of the day after I tried to send it. but before it went entirely I was still able to get on internationally but not locally.. very strange..
the last time I saw that happen was when the sh*t hit the fan and we had a new military government suddenly installed so I thought it may have happened again but my phone was still working this time so I figured not.
worked out well for the rest of us then!Originally Posted by DrivingForce

OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet
In technologically backwards areas such as Thailand this is a good, reliable alternative.
^ A good way to spent a couple of hours trying to get basic access to the internet back, anyway...
A couple hours?
you thick or something?
Does this work with Dynamic IP's or has it got to be static?
In windows you can use the DHCP server's DNS server (your router's that it gets from the ISP) or configure them locally. Can't guide you through the hoopsyou need to jump to get it configed, you can also add them to your router's config, in most cases. Mac should be pretty easy. There's a couple ways to set it up on linux. to get DHCP and still use locally configged DNS servers.
Pretty sure anyone still using the PPOE software to connect can set that up as well in windows. Best place to start is here: OpenDNS > Support
Should be able to answer your questions and get you started.
Absolute doddle. Walkthrough is simple, 3 steps to set up and supports dynamic IPs. I had to d/l a tiny app that monitors and updates the IP to the account. Mac BTW TOT modem not a router.
Out of ammo, green owed to FF.
you setup an account???
I never have, just use the servers
I did too for my lap top but I'm reluctant for my PC, want to try it out a bit first... but if I can do it no worries..
I had an old setting on this laptop so it wasn't getting the DNS server address automatically. I changed that and was without the internet for an hour or so, but now it's working somehow.
Unfortunately my horrible Zyxel router doesn't have a nice handy guide to set it up on the Open DNS site and I can't find an obvious place under the WAN settings to put the 2 numbers. I'll leave it alone for now.
I did the DNS thing on my Belkin wireless router, very easy and works a treat, now I can hear streaming Radio from home uninterrupted and my e-mail account opens twice as fast as does my newspapers from home.
Greens sent
Check this site out if you like streaming Radio
