Good news. Because you are using a laptop not likely the tickle is coming from your computer. If you have any USB devices attached to the computer disconnect them and see if you still get the tickle. If not one of the devices needs to have an earth not your computer. If one of the USB devices has a problem it will transfer some electricity to your computer over the USB shielding.

Finding a good 3 prong power strip (300baht +) is the correct thing to do. In the mean time use the mat. Is the mat working or not?

Hi Norton, I forgot to buy a mat the other day in Ubon. I have a printer and external harddrive hanging off the laptop so will disconnect and see what happens.

*Edit* nope - makes no difference.

Need to find a 3 pronged power board it seems.

I noticed that the free microwave we got with the washing machine is earthed but the new fridge we just piked up isn't.

Are they available everywhere in Bkk?

I just checked my power board and it actually is a three pronged one yet I am still getting bit, well apart from when I wear my leather thongs

Maybe the house hasn't been earthed correctly, how would I check?

It is not enough with a 3rd hole in the plastic, there must be something below it also
Look in the hole and compare what you see with the other two holes..

Usually a quick look at the cable tells enough, the flat cable type has only 2 cords inside.

If this isn't enough, look at the plug in the end of the power board cable.
    Is it a 2-pin plug or a 3-pin plug?

Make your own? buy a length of copper rod, drive it into the earth until refusal, then get two crocodile clips and a length of green\yellow wire (do not substitute - other colours can be dangerous) connect wire to clips by soldering, then attach one clip to laptop and the other to the copper rod,
Quite a simple solution for the home handy man really

It's even the norm. Especially for houses built in the countryside. The only thing that will be earthed, if anything, is the water heater for the shower.

But even that you cannot be sure of and ought to check very carefully, or you may be very sorry one day if one of your loved ones is fried to death.

I built my house here and it was wired by an idiot. The electrical is not grounded. I get bit too when I touch any metal on my computer. It appears that anyone here can call themselves an electrical engineer. Had to go through three until I found one that was knowledgeable enough to know that one cant put the dryer, washing machine, refrigerator, 3 TVs, the well pump, and the wiring in my study on a 20 amp fuse.
