Apple is overpriced and soon becomes outdatedand you're forced to upgrade .

Windows Vista laptop and Samsung 5 phone all the way for me, no issues in the last decade.

Apple are overpriced shite, but they're easy to use so good for people with negligible understanding of computers.

My daily use computer is a 12 year old Lenovo Ideacentre.

It runs Windows 11 like a champ.

If you weren't such a fucking retard you would know that's not what the mirror is running on.

But as usual you spout your cretinous mouth off without actually reading what's been in front of you for months.

You're very sort of person dragging this forum down with mindless, irrelevant drivel, and you literally contribute nothing of any value.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

Never mind, he's where he belongs - in my Ignore list with Spamdreth and Skidmark. They're all at the same level really.

Not really worth building one yourself unless you work in the industry and have access to the different items. Putting one together based on specs often leads to a non optimum solution. Worse, the time invested is time lost working and adds significantly to hidden cost.

Funny how those that build their own always thing they are the best machines.

Very few people build a laptop in fairness. There would be little point, as everything is generally integrated into the motherboard.

A lot of people build a desktop for gaming, because you can't buy much off the shelf with any real oomph.

Once when I was looking for a laptop with a ton of RAM to run multiple VM's, the biggest I could find was a 32Gb MSI.

Microsoft is rumoured to release it new surface line at the end of march with the core ultra chips

I have always upgraded my laptops ram and harddrive to make them last longer

You should be opening the device once a year and using a paintbrush to clean the dust from the fans and vents. It will last longer and work better

Easy to find a YouTube video showing you how
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

So, have you moved into a more specific space where you can define your needs more exactly (due to the expert help on this thread?):

A home entertainment setup that's used as a pc sometimes on a big screen is one thing (the base Mac mini does this great).

An out and about small laptop is something else, and Lenovo do some good stuff at reasonable prices. They have many different types of machines, some are quite innovative like the ideapads and yogabooks.

Spoken by someone who clearly has no idea what he is talking about. In fact, the opposite of your claim is the truth.

Off the shelf PCs are garbage, they have the cheapest possible components. When you build it yourself, you have complete control of the parts that go into it. From the fans to the case to the power supply, I chose the best of every category and installed it myself using my excellent cable management skills that I picked up over the years working in the industry as well as building my own PCs.

Because it is easy to tell, that is why. All the key parts of a PC are tested and placed in a hierarchy that is constantly being updated online. Once the PC is built, you simply benchmark it against other PCs using one of many benchmarking software products. It will literally tell you how your PC stacks up against other PCs in the world and will actually give you a ranking.

Well that's just a load of bollocks.

Yes, you can buy a no-name PCs full of cheap shit, but generally speaking you can see what goes into a desktop, what type and brand of motherboard, RAM, video, processor, etc.

And they're normally good value because of economies of scale.

The only reason to build your own PC is because you want something exceptional, probably for processor-m RAM- or video-intensive gaming.

Have you ever opened up a Dell or other off the shelf brand? Cheapest possible fans, cases and power supplies, shoddy wiring jobs, etc. This what I was talking about. They are probably slapped together by some Chinese prison labor.

Dell and most other brands use proprietary motherboards with limited features at best.

Did you mean graphically demanding games?
