System Monitoring - What do you use?

As some of you remember, I'm teaching online, so knowing thing like if my internet isn't working or there's a memory leak (my Shure mic software went schizoid once), so having a nice easy way to check on things is nice.

I use Rainmeter, it's pretty cool stuff.....this is what I monitor, but there's tons of other things....

My browser tabs are kept just below this so I can see my student/books and see what needs watching at a glance.

Very nice stuff and there are tons of skins.

Calender and battery can be found in the bottom right of a Windows machine...

Seems like a waste of space and memory tbh.

But it looks cool, I've got a 24" monitor and tons of memory. Having a clock with seconds is nice too, I time my classes fairly closely to be sure my students get their full amount of time.

Any additional software is extra load and possibly exploitable IMHO

You rely on it for work so I bow to your knowledge but can see no use.

Having back up power supply, 4 net streams TOT DTAC and AIS allows me to watch streams and global tv that is all I need.

If you like to roam from beach to house to garden there are signal boosters I have been told.

He said already he has plenty of RAM, so load is not an issue, rainmeter is open source, and it has been around for over twenty years. There is no risk to running it whatsoever.

I don't see the need either unless something starts to slow down; taskmanager gives me enough info to find the offender and deal with it.

How much ram is enough? Depends on what you are using your machine for.

Don't be so utterly naiive. The only difference between OSS and commercial software is that there is more transparency when they find their software has a huge fucking hole.

Add to that it's yet another step in a troubleshooting chain if it conflicts with something else and you have two good reasons not to use something just because "it's cool".

a bit of sexadecimal never inhibited abum assembler, sorry my array overfloweth IBM arse ressembler as it was called in 80s when a net was worn by Ena Sharples and the web was for spiders. May yer Griddle stop the spetsnatz.

I think our lad wants a cheap plug and play quite rightly to entertain him while wiring for Socal's English lesson. Hopefully at $50 an hour can buy top notch kit for a mornings dribble.

Not at all, I was just shitfaced. A bit or a byte, it's all zeros and ones.

It is a personal laptop he uses at home, not a crucial interface of some mammoth network dippy. It is fine to use.

Ah I remember those well in an era when Sideburns and flared trousers were all very Ron Burgundy and a dip in the pool after work was a date with a room full of young ladies in mini skirts "typing" something on a "typewriter" for the benefit the cubs like Backspin this was a 12 pound iPHONE that didn't make calls but produced hard copy and had a reassuring DING, never got lost not flat battery !!!!

^ ...and you can blame marketing at Remington for the final qwerty layout. They decided the top row of keys had to spell 'typewriter'...I guess it could have been worse if the keyboard warriors had their say.

Lego brought out a Lego Typewriter a few years ago.

That actually types. Which is pretty damn impressive. Though I don't know if they make a Davey-Ding sound.

    Apparently they sold out.

Edwina wanted one from Santa, which she nearly got, until Santa saw the price of the fookin' thing.

He brought her a 1 meter tall Lego Saturn V rocket instead, bless 'im.
