Is it worth sticking an SSD and new windows in my old notebook

I don't really need a new notebook but might be working overseas for a while . Rather than buy a new one I'm thinking installing a new SSD as the disk drive is the most vulnerable part and stick new OS at the same time.

I don't do gaming and don't really want to spend 40,000 on a new one. Currently have an all-in-one on my desk but it is not really "portable" I don't really need portability in the sense of dragging it between home and work. Just leave it at home for personal stuff.

I suppose another alternative would be put "everything" I need on a portable hard drive and but a new all-in-one there.

Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

    define "worth it"

    short answer is "no need"

long answer "depends on your real needs, not imaginary ones"

SSD main advantage is "speed" so if you don't need it, why bother ?

The consensus view is that it will appear to speed up everything, though in reality it's only speeding up read/write operations. I would not go back to spinning storage, though I still use portable spinning disks for backups and archives.

When I changed to SSD on a PC, the difference was remarkable but YMMV.

It would depend on what you're using it for.

If just watching media files, with some basic office work, than probably no.

If using 4 or 5 high power editing tools than probably yes.

    Peace be unto you.

i recently replaced my slow, windows 7, 4 yr old laptop with an ssd equipped windows 10 laptop.

the increase in speed is remarkable and i also would never go back to a spinning hard drive. the thing boots up instantly and is faster than my android tablet.

its a dell inspiron 13 5000 series, 13" display, i can fold the screen back and work the thing as a touchscreen tablet or use it as a regular laptop. bought in the uk,it cost about 24,000b.

you will get a speed boost , but how much will depend on the version of sata interface in the laptop

the full specifcations of the laptop are needed to give the best answer
