Keep getting a malware pop-up warning which stops me typing. Scan doesn't help.
Can't view the virus vault
Scans but doesn't tell on what it is doing
What is a decent alternative?

As well as changing the AV, install, update and run:
Superantispyware
Malwarebytes
Spybot Search and Destroy
I know this doesn't help but I haven't had this problem in about 6 years with Mac
Dont even have anti-virus software. Dont get pop-ups unless its time to update.
This is a dated and useless app anymore. Don't bother. For a free AV Avira is currently at the top of the pack.Originally Posted by Auroria

Never met a Mac owner that went back to PC as a preference.
Malwarebytes does okay for me with Avast antivirus.
I tried Avira and didn't like it; I also found Kaspersky a bit of a letdown too. Malwarebytes is reliable, but doesn't do everything.
Trend Micro, Avast, F-Secure are my preferred at the moment.
I habitually bung AVG on, it has got annoying recently.
Cheers all. I'll see what happens next time I start up. If it is still "performing" I'll try Avira.
Here is what i get when I start have not tried reboot yet.
I get the same about every minute and it stops me typing. Same /b/opt but a different number.
I have run malwarebytes and SuperAnti spywareyi spyware which works until I restart. I cannot get to AVG quarantine folder yet.
Tried searching in Explorere but ...
Anyone have any ideas?
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all
Those who cannot change their mind, cannot change anything.
What was the results of the scans? Did they find anything? What version of windows are you using? Have you tried uninstalling avast?Originally Posted by VocalNeal
Definitely should uninstall the antivirus and get another. Avast! seems okay.
I used Panda before which was good.
Best Free Antivirus Software for Windows PCs: 2017 Edition
Avira (8/10)
Bitdefender (8/10)
Panda (7/10)
are the top 3.
It has been that way for many years. It is really sad that they still keep it out there because its just giving people a false sense of security. Really these days Malwarebytes is all all you need for the malware/spyware/ransomware.Originally Posted by Auroria
Now half the option in Control panel have disappeared and I can't start windows 7 in safe mode.
Back up whatever you want to keep on an External Hard Drive.
What version of Windows is it?
Is it real or a copy?
What computer is it? What are the specs?
You are infected with malware. Download this;
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/
Run it. It will kill running processes on your computer. Then immediately update and run Malwarebytes.
Good luck!
^ Good link.
They had another one a few years ago that I forget. It was really quick and simple.
Fortunately I haven't had any issues in about 7 years.
I do admire you lots commitment to being so tight but if you running Windows ffs buy Kaspersky, I've been running for ever never had an issue.
Not really a question of being tight. But thanks for the concern.
Signature based antivirus basically sucks these days.
