I'm getting fed up with AVG. Which alternative

Keep getting a malware pop-up warning which stops me typing. Scan doesn't help.

    Can't view the virus vault
Scans but doesn't tell on what it is doing

    What is a decent alternative?

As well as changing the AV, install, update and run:

    Superantispyware
    Malwarebytes
    Spybot Search and Destroy

I know this doesn't help but I haven't had this problem in about 6 years with Mac

Dont even have anti-virus software. Dont get pop-ups unless its time to update.

This is a dated and useless app anymore. Don't bother. For a free AV Avira is currently at the top of the pack.

Yes, but you then have to suffer on with a Mac.

The only suffering I do is when I look at the price of a new one

Never met a Mac owner that went back to PC as a preference.

I tried Avira and didn't like it; I also found Kaspersky a bit of a letdown too. Malwarebytes is reliable, but doesn't do everything.

Trend Micro, Avast, F-Secure are my preferred at the moment.

I habitually bung AVG on, it has got annoying recently.

Cheers all. I'll see what happens next time I start up. If it is still "performing" I'll try Avira.

Here is what i get when I start have not tried reboot yet.

I get the same about every minute and it stops me typing. Same /b/opt but a different number.

I have run malwarebytes and SuperAnti spywareyi spyware which works until I restart. I cannot get to AVG quarantine folder yet.

Tried searching in Explorere but ...

    Anyone have any ideas?

Definitely should uninstall the antivirus and get another. Avast! seems okay.

I used Panda before which was good.

It has been that way for many years. It is really sad that they still keep it out there because its just giving people a false sense of security. Really these days Malwarebytes is all all you need for the malware/spyware/ransomware.

Back up whatever you want to keep on an External Hard Drive.

What version of Windows is it?
Is it real or a copy?
What computer is it? What are the specs?

    You are infected with malware. Download this;

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

Run it. It will kill running processes on your computer. Then immediately update and run Malwarebytes.

    Good luck!

    ^ Good link.

They had another one a few years ago that I forget. It was really quick and simple.

Fortunately I haven't had any issues in about 7 years.

Not really a question of being tight. But thanks for the concern.
