I did that and it came up with fixes which I instructed the computer to fix. Still won't do 'Updates'.Originally Posted by Neverna

My windows is as genuine a Thai who's borrowed 10,000 and says 'I'll pay you back tomorrow'.
There is a walkthrough of the troubleshooter at this link. However, it might be better to just download the convenience rollup referred to later in the article, and install it.
That will significantly reduce the amount of updates required if you haven't done it for a while.
How to Fix Windows Update When It Gets Stuck
I had a similar issue with win 10 recently on one machine. I sorted it by extending the size of the system partition. Update downloads will fail if the system partition is too small.

I'm in the same boat. I've gave up.Originally Posted by Neverna
Did either of you download and install the convenience roll up?
I got as far as
'Fix problems with Windows Update'. It just kept searching. The same as not finding any Window Updates, my original problem.

How to Update Windows 7 All at Once with Microsoft?s Convenience Rollup
I have done the download a few times now. I get to a 'Windows Updates Standalone Installer' and all it seems to do is search and never finds any updates.
is it a true version of Win7 or a Somchai copy ? just in case
probably a fucked connection to MS HQ, above all with those Thai government proxies trying to block traffic they don't understandOriginally Posted by Pragmatic
A Somchai copy but, in saying that, in 11 years I've never had a genuine copy and never had a problem before.Originally Posted by Dragonfly
It took about half an hour after starting the April 2015 Servicing Stack Update for it to go through all updates on my computer and check that this update wasn't done before.Originally Posted by Pragmatic
It then took around the same time for the big update (Windows 7 SP1 convinience rollup) to do the same.
The computer was now updated to May 2016, I checked Windows Update in the Control panel and there were 93 updates suggested, some of them were before May 2016 but I let it do them all.
It took longer, more than an hour, after which it was reported that 53 updates were applied, 40 not needed, and no more updates pending.
Edit: my system disk is a fast SSD so your times could easily be the double if your system disk is a hard disk..
Well now they've changed how Win 7 and up receive updates, it should be significantly less of a pain.
And you can now extend the hours in which Windows will not try and apply updates, although it will force them through eventually in Windows 10.
