    2nd hand mac pro

    HI,

Pretty soon I will be sorta permanently relocating to Thailand, spreading my time between Buriram and Bangkok.
It'll be sort of an early retirement, just sold my business back home in Europe.

Part of the deal will be "remotely" supporting the people who took over my company for at least a few years more.

To that effect I am curious if there are older Mac Pro's to be found. I have many at home (5.1, 6.1 trashcans and 7.1's), but apart from the trashcans they are prohibitively heavy to take along!

So, any of the "nerds" here, somebody seen like 2nd hand shops specialising in that sort of Mac equipment? I've strolled around in the usual suspect shopping miles , MBK, Fortune Town...Pantip I haven't been in ages, at least not since their refurb in 2018/2019...

I kinda hope there are some floating around, just worried maybe not that much, since those machines new were like up to several hundred thousands in Thai Bath (up to close to two million for a fully max specced out 7.1 )

Over here in Europe prices of the Intel Macs have tumbled since Apple Silicon, but I need Intel (for a few reasons)! So hopefully not having to go to the trouble of moving some of my machines (a 5.1 is roundabout 20kgs!)

OK, so in your retirement (semi) having sold your company you didn't negitiate an IT set up in Thailand knowing its part of the deal, or the shipping out of the numerous MACs yuo already have - if that's the case you propbably got taken for a ride on the price of your company or you are going to struggle with being a tight cvnt all you remaining life

bit harsh, or are you annoyed i got a post in before you started on his puntuation?

Anyway Beanie i'm sure a few grand won't break the bank or the company funding it, depreciated over 5 years.

Ignore Cyrille, he's from Birmingham, has no sense of humour and his team WBA didn't get promoted...again

    Buriram eh....

Those Macs will disappear and replaced by a brand new Isuzu D Max for the bro.

Did the family already suggest a piece of land for a new build?

    I'm an old nostalgic fart

To be honest, it's also a part craving to the thinkering with those older (but surprisingly even still today capable macchines).

Actually, pretty much all data is indeed in the cloud, but I still need a physical machine to work on...
Healthy mix between between "only MacOS" and "Only Windows" software, hence the need for Intel Mac.

And as much as money might not be an object, new Intel Macs are not sold anymore...

Thanks for the concern, but there is absolutely no monetary reason, just a "lazy" reason.
Shipping, dealing with the shipping companies and Thai bureaucracy I'd rather avoid.
Buying new is in general the best advice on pretty much anything when moving to Thailand, unless it would be extremely sentimental!

Moneywise I could just as easily buy new, weren't it for the fact that Apple simply does not sell Intel Macs anymore, and a chunk of the software is not compatible with Apple Silicon.

    Why would he be?

I actually already lived for a rather longish period of time in Thailand (little over 10 years) when I was younger, and it would probably have been pretty much the same advice I would have given

At least based on the little info he has gotten from me!

Absolutely, ain't a monetary reason at all, just a practical one.
The new machines Apple sells won't do, and the older versions, while now in the West (or East for the Ozzies) are plenty available dirt cheap 2ndhand, they were once, when sold new, outrageaously expensive, which might mean very few are floating around on the Thai 2nd hand market!

    Hence my OP!

No worries, thanks for the concern...

Married for close to 24 years, built the house about 15 years ago and bought the condo in BKK (in my name) about 12 years ago....

Already lived there for over 10 years so kinda know the ropes (as they all say )...

Your best bet may well be to PM a man on here who goes by the name of Bettyboo. As his name suggests, he's a tad effeminate with a penchant for sitting in branches of Starbucks with a toffee caramel macchiato, prawn and mayo panini and a shiny Apple product on table whilst poncing back and forth modelling denim jeans made from the finest of Zimbabwean cotton. If you're a size 32 waist I know he has a pair of those going begging too.

    Good Luck.

Well, it was almost 20 years ago since I headed back towards the European continent, so what was relevant back then (Pantip Plaza being the prime example) most likey won't be today!
