    I'm impressed with myself.
I know it's not a serious question, but I can already do one thing on my computer and still use the net.
    I'm very happy.
With the old rammage, if I was burning something, that was it.
The internet was out of the question till the burn finished.

    I expect not.
I really got fed up with the crap slowness of my computer. Mouse freezing, movies stalling.
    I'm downloading stuff 24/7.
Burning was a pain in the arse, best done at night when i didn't need the puter for anything else.

In any case I am glad I did it myself, it's just about the first computer hardware thing I haven't run crying to a shop about.
Thanks a lot for the very generous offer.

I'm still buying you a beer or ten for your help.

Having more RAM won't help against the dozens of virus you must have on your PC. This is why it was very slow.

I am running WinXP on 256MB, downloading and doing all kind of stuff on a lean machine. Not a problem with slowness.

Must be all those trojans spamming the web with your PC. You are probably one of those Zombie PC that clueless users seem to get all the time.

Not sure it's the size that counts but how you use it. I have 2 gb but system still goes into coma for a while and then all the mouse clicks sort of suddenly catch up in 3 nanaseconds causing me to instinctively reach forward to hold onto the screen.

Mrs, meanwhile, with her 1 gb, never cleans her system, doesn't know what the registry is, never defrags, never dumps cache, never does anything except plod along mindlessly ignorant beyond hitting the on switch and the firefox pic, somehow leaves me stranded whenever she downloads anything because something I've done like being bad in a previous life has given her most of our bandwidth, yesterday stalled me the entire day with neither of us realising because she started downloading a 1.3gb file as though it were a ttf then switched off her monitor to watch tv so I didn't realise why my connection was dragging, and then upon completion calmly deleted the file because it was the wrong version of the foking dance game she thought she had clicked. Believe me, much more fun to be than to live with stupid.

And I tell you why else I love this forum.
i googled "inserting new ram" and the first page was full of terrifying advice.
Try it if you don't believe me.

Fukking links to anti static watches and crap like that.
much rather ask my question here.

Funny, similar things going on in the Stein household. When she checks her hotmail, suddenly my surfing grinds to a halt. I blame the router. Am I right?

    Maybe. Or an ISP problem.
Not a router problem if it has worked ok before.

I'm quite impressed that not only did you install it without any static problems, but you also got the wrong 1 GB RAM changed for the right 2* 512 MB ones. Well done!

I need to get a UPS today or tomorrow.
Are there any brands you'd recommend?
The woman at the shop recommended one in the 1700 baht range.

Only get a 600va UPS if you have a LCD monitor
If you have a CRT monitor then you will need a bigger UPS
