Thread: iPad3 vs Galaxy Tab 2

Better half has, rightly, decided she has had enough of her iPhone 3 which is more of less unusable. She has also decided to do what I have done, bugger the smart phone, have a tablet with a decent usable screen and a cheap dumb phone which will last 2 weeks between charges.

So we've been looking in the shops and the two that stand out are the iPad 3 and the galaxy tab2

Viewing them in the shop I would say that the aspect ratio of the iPad is better suited for ebook reading and the tab's is better for wide screen video playback. The iPads screen is much nicer than the tabs, but its heavier and takes a long long time to recharge the batteries.

Given that the device is going to be used mainly for web browsing, watching thai TV, reading books/comics and if possible working with word and excel documents. does anyone have any suggestions as to help with making the choice.

Yes the iPad 2, compare those 2 together, i bought 2 for my kids, they are lighter and thinner than the iPad 3 and dont get so hot due to the massive battery the iPad 3 has to light up that screen.
They use the same firmware too 5.1
I think around 13500 you can get one for. go google it.

^the problem with the iPad 2 is that it has the same screen resolution as my iPad.. and its only just good enough when you are reading book pdfs. the iPad3 screen makes a huge difference, but as you say.... at the cost of heat and weight

Ive just thought the new 7.7 has Amoled, but a expensive due to it having 3G, unlike the iPad 2 where u can just take the base wifi model

The thing with some people is they see HD TV then 3D TV, then think the iPad2 screen is shit. compare the iPad 2 to your LCD TV. it has more pixels PSI than that.

It's like photographs nowadays, the old technicolor were fine , ooh i need 5000000000 pixels to see that vein on my nose

good question, i think maybe not, the screens on the 7.7" did seem nicer than those on the 10.1

I know what your saying. but in this case it is worth it. the iPad and ipad2 displays are good enough when browsing the web.... mainly because the web uses arial fonts which work well on low res screens. I, though not better half, read a lot of ebooks in pdf format and they use times roman which is just passable one the iPad.

what are samsung like of keeping update android images available on their older (2 year old) tablets and phones?

The iPad3's screen was so much better than anything else, it was the only tablet to buy at this moment in time.

As for the simple phone.... she decided to bugger that and buy a samsung pocket, as it did everything she wanted a phone to do, was cheap and android makes a much better phone than iOS.

Its not so much of the quality of the colours, its the screen resolution which displays produces near print quality fonts. its rather like comparing the output of a fax to a laser.

Apple is seeking to have the court case declared "exceptional," a legal standard under which the jury could award treble damages. That's three times the amount of actual, provable damages -- which Apple is claiming run to billions of dollars.

right, because these days the screen quality are so far behind compared to apple, it does make a huge difference to see 2 extra pixels
