    Price is reduced to 165,000.

My mechanic said the brakes needed attention, so it has just had a nearly complete brake system renewal -- that includes master cylinder, all four wheel cylinders, front brake shoes, 3 steel brake lines and 2 rubber brake hoses.

just out of curiosity, what do you think it would it cost to convert your VW into a soft top convertible like this one?

    Hi Ray!

That's one sweet ride! Is that yours, or just one you happened to see advertised at Sunset Classics?

They are quite rare in Thailand. The only two I have seen were 1 million baht each! So it would be a true treasure to have one here.

To answer your question, it depends on whether you want a correct conversion, or just the effect.

A correct conversion would be virtually impossible in Thailand due to the difficulty of locating correct VW components.

But if you just want to have a fun car, it is definitely do-able!

It would be much easier if you just want a "roadster" and don't care about the roof.

I couldn't find a picture of the roadster from my friend in the Redding VW club, but here's one similar:

This project is very easy. There's about 20 pages of photos of roadsters built in this and similar styles here. There's some good photos showing where the body cuts were made to remove the roof:

If you want to add the roof, it's not a tough job if you don't mind a one-off fabrication. This is easily in reach of Thai workers or a do-it-yourself job. It's just a matter of designing a fold-down frame and sewing a top to fit.
