Huay Tung Tao Lake. A nice day out.

A nice afternoon out and only 10-12km from the old city. A large man made lake with mountain backdrop and lots of little huts along the edge from which to drink, eat, dangle your feet in to the water etc etc.

Personally I like the ones I've been to in Isaan more, where your hut is actually a raft on a pully system and it's taken out to the middle of the lake.

Best go here on the weekdays and you'll likely have it to yourselves, gets busy with families at the weekends. A nice refreshing place to relax for the afternoon though.













All the usual Thai food. Live baby shrimp swimming in chili and the such.









Nice enough place for a cooling, slightly-drunken swim.

Think the photographer was drunk though.

we took some friends there earlier this year

the only problem we had was the big Swan pedal boats have a weight limit of 55kg, so only the wives could use them!

They have different zones in there too I think, one for fishing where ye can set up a line. Or maybe you can do that from any of them.

Up that way for 5 or so days it's worth heading out that way for an afternoon. Think I was out there three times in the year I spent in CM. That was probably enough.

It is a nice little place. Beer is cold. Food is tasty enough. Scenery is pretty nice. It's quiet. Not much else needed for a lazy afternoon I suppose.

i must admit i find the food choices are so much better in the Lanna lake eateries and you dont have to pay to enter either, they also have cheap beer deals like 110 baht for 3 large leo and a couple have live music in the evenings, no swimming though, but a good day out or a great evening

been there lots of times. You can also camp there,but you have to supply your own tent.

Was only chatting to a mate a few days ago and was saying there's a mountain bike trail going from the back of 700 years stadium through the jungle to the back of it.

Might be of interest to those with bikes without engines.

Might be the ones at Laana lakes, went 2 weeks ago with TGF for lunch. Was nice, I thought more paang maak than Huay Tung Tao and the food was aroy maak, but I like the food at HTT more although the seating was more "civilized" i.e. they had tables and chairs as well as Thai seating (on the floor) which I prefer only because one of my old legs got smashed 7 years ago in a M/C accident. It takes a 15-20 minute ride in a long-tail boat to get to the restaurants and cost me 100bht to enter but only 20bht for the Thais and 100bht tip for the boatman. It was a nice day!
