    AirAsia cancellation from Chiang Mai

Traveled to Chaing Mai this past week. Flight delayed in Bangkok, no problem. Get to airport today at 1pm for 2:30 flight. No one at check in counter, board reads the gate we are to depart from. 1:30pm counter open -- board reads flight canceled. When asked why -- answer -- monthly maintenance. Nothing but gibberish why they didn't contact us. Had contact numbers -- still they didn't contact. Told us they contacted 122 people to tell them the flight was canceled. Only 8 they didn't reach. 5:15 flight had less then 125 people on board. Think they just plain didn't have enough people. Does this happen often???

that's the thing with budget airlines...they have no obligation to actually run the flight if they don't want too...

fly a scheduled airline which must fly even if it's half full...you get what you pay for in life...

Never experienced this myself with Air Asia or Nok Air - touch wood. But I've flown Nok Air when it's less than half full, and the flight was on time.

Had a flight with Nok Air from Chiang Mai cancelled too but it was no problem for us.

I would never take a budget airline if I need to be on time.

I use AirAsia pretty often. Sure they're always late, but they're cheap as chips. Nice new planes on some routes too.

Out of approx 12 flights with AA I have had 1 delayed by 3 hours and the rest have been on time or at least within 20 minutes.

Took Air Asia to Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and inside Malaysia many times. All flights were perfect and not delayed. Some were even too early. Hope my luck continues...

My mate was on the flight and though they contacted him, he was greatly inconvenienced.
He also asked them why the flight was cancelled and they said something about operation procedures.

I've flown AirAsia BKK Chiang Mai about six time since Christmas and they have been late every fucking time and one flight was canceled.

My parents used Thai in the same period and they were late as well but not canceled.

I go to Chiang Mai airport quite a lot and I always check the flights to Suwanabhumi and they are nearly always delayed. I guess it's problems at Suwanabhumi as Chiang Mai runs well below capacity. However AirAsia are cheap and they fly to Suwanabhumi unlike Nok who go to Don Meuang.

Was going to Nakon Si Tmamarat in February and when I got to the airport, they said the whole flight had been canceled, Why??? the airplane crash. Now I am thinking another flight had went down and they explained that it was do the crash in Phuket months ago and they are short 1 plane. What kind of planning is that and with no notification except upon arrival at the airport.

Ended up getting a refund and scrapping the whole trip.

I assume they DO have a minimum number of passengers required to fly, although I doubt they would ever admit it.

I was late from CM the last time because it was utter chaos at CM airport. It seems that they have trouble coping with more than about 4 planes at a time due to incompetence.

I use Nok to CM because Don Mueang is only about 20 mins away from here and you don't have a mad scramble for seats.

Got to laugh at their website which claims 75% of flights leave on time. I assume they're lumping Thai-Air Asia in with the Malaysian bunch who seem to have better time keeping. I've flown BKK - Chiang Mai on Air Asia twice this year on both days every AA flight on the board was delayed.

How can AirAsia be short of 1 plane if One2Go crashed?

Nok has always been fine in my experience. AirAsia has not. Got an AA rep to admit they were delaying all flights to CM until they could fill a plane.

yes it happens all the time. especially on routes where they have 5x or more flights a day. they try to fill up on the next plane. i fly with them all the time and for what i pay, i don't really mind cause i do expect inconveniences.

Strangely enough, they have always been on time, more or less
