Qatar Air Flights CNX

Hello all,
Has anyone flown into Chiang Mai with Qatar Air, thinking of giving it a go but would appreciate anyone views & experience.

Thought this would be great news travelling in from the Arabian Gulf. No stopover in Bangkok...woohoo!

Then around this time last year flights were blocked from other Gulf countries to Qatar.

There is now a stopover in Yangon too.

All in all, well, you probably won't have much trouble getting a seat.

Qatar have newer planes and stewardesses! Doha airport is smaller and more intimate. A wider variety of films. If you stop over there is a nice island just offshore.

Well i have managed to book a flight that seems to be direct from Doha to Chiang Mai landing 8th April, will have to see how it goes.
I will let you know, according to the wifes family it is very hot in Chiang Mai at the moment.

I imagine it will be much hotter when you get there, whatever date and whatever airline you arrive on.

I think you'll find it is via Yangon most days, I used to work for them and while excellent service not sure "newer hostesses'

My late great pal Steve from Cambridge was so bored that he borrowed a broom and just walked down the end of the runway and off the base at the old airport.

I'm pretty sure the CNX-Doha is direct so faster than via Yangon or BKK

Doha airport is smaller and more intimate.

It's one big fucking duty free shop, and the gates are so far apart they have trains.

Other than that, you're spot on.

I found it a little boring. Clean and efficient but dull. Not that I expected any excitement, of course. One positive thing was that I had much less walking and queuing to do than in Dubai airport.

Looks like harry is unhappy unless he can don goggles and cry 'Chocs Away!!'

Queues were horrendous for the three years they were building that thing. The clear signage and ease of getting around is great now.

I really don't care if there are ten shops full of overpriced stuff I'm not interested in, or 1010.

And I wasn't complaining, I was merely saying that it isn't "smaller and more intimate."....

Although *anything* is smaller and more intimate than Dubai.....

Haven't done the new Muscat yet, but have heard several horror stories about people being stuck on planes or in transit security because of a palpable lack of staff.

Stories typical of this part of the world like people being offered accommodation for several hours at airport hotels because of cancelled flights, but not being able to take up the offer without spending an hour going through immigration...

Dammam has not got much going for it. Duty free consists of a shelf of dusty packets of tea biscuits. There is the usual Starbucks staffed by cranky Indians.

Managed to avoid ever flying into and out of the magic kingdom. And I hope I never have to.

Oman Air are OK. All new airports have teething problems. I might have to fly through it in June. Hopefully fixed by then if so.

Afternoon all, the flight from Doha flew directly into Chiang Nai and I’ve got to say its a lot easier than going through Bangkok, the plane was not the newest but it was comfortable and the inflight entertainment was the same as other planes.
cant knock the service really and its a hell of a lot easier than the headaches of transitting through Dubai.
Just sorting out the old beetle now, its got to be sold if anyone is interested?
