I disagree - last time I went there regularly there were many stunning Viet girls with top notch figures.

I've scored the best looking girl in my life from that place - tall perfect bodied Vietnamese honey - perhaps some nights are better than others though of course.

Phnom Penh is a different scene. Some hate it. There is more of a sense of freedom which bothers people. Thai cops are honest sweethearts in Pattaya compared to Phnom Penh cops..

The best place to get a room, in my opinion after living here 5 years, is at the top floor of Walkabout and the last room on that floor. I think its $25 now but that Jacuzzi for 6 and the balcony mini garden (+ the location) makes it a logical choice for any punter. 24 hour food/pool tables/bar/freelancers. Martini not too far away. A few places within walking distance. Bars on the riverside streets a 5 minute drive. Always a took took.

It's not Bangkok or Pattaya so during the morning and day, most places are closed. If you know where to go though, you can pull any time. Though at 9am unless you are lucky, or know where to go, your choices may not be pleasing.

I like living here, though I miss Thailand of 8 years ago. Now its just obscenely expensive. Here I pay 20$ long time which is less than 600 bhat. For 600Bhat today in Thailand even cover the barfine?

Disagree. I'd like to see you pay a Thai copper $2 to get out of any traffic violation, I'd like to see a Thai copper search you and not nick you for a bag of weed. Yeah, they're more visibly corrupt, but the penalties are much less too. Also, they don't go out of their way to pick on the white face, they pretty much "tax" everyone equally, perhaps locals even more so...

Try the New Castle just up from the black Cat and right next door to the White cobra , rooms start at $15 there some with a balcony and all with fridge , hot shower , clean bedding and towels everyday , safety boxes in reception and 24/7 desk ... Oh and reasonably priced cans of Anchor and Beer Lao ... And above all it's clean , which you can't say about the Walkabout , Glen really needs to give that place a lick of paint ....

I still don't quite understand why you guys go on about Beer Lao. Pretty ordinary if you ask me. They do have really good beer here, Panther, Angkor draft which is cheap and you can drink like water. In fact I quit drinking water here. Then if you want a kick in the head; ABC stout, four of those will make you comatose. Then the tastiest and closest to a IPA is the Angkor stout which comes in the big bottles, that's also good for kick in the head.
I really like PP, it's dirty smelly, friendly, relatively cheap, and above all real! I like like it and I'll be back.

The number of slum-dwellers in Phnom Penh grew by nearly 25 per cent last year to more than 100,000 people, according to a government report released yesterday.

By the end of the year, 105,771 people lived in informal settlements, compared with 85,807 at the start of 2012.

Slum locations — defined by the government as informal settlements erected on state public land — increased by eight to 511.

In total, just over 25,100 families reside in Phnom Penh’s slums.

The figures were published in the Phnom Penh Municipality’s annual report.

Buried amid statistics on crime and real estate and delivered without context, they hint at the rapidly changing dynamics of the Kingdom’s largest city and suggest city authorities may be ill-equipped to deal with the fallout.

This is an old thread and things are changing. You can find a decent area in PP or a shithole in Bangkok. Certain growing areas in PP aren't bad at all anymore if you lump them in with other SE Asia cities.
