Growth expected for Thai gems and jewelry industry

Growth expected for Thai gems and jewelry industry
BANGKOK, 11 February 2010 (NNT) — President of the Thai Gem and Jewellery Traders Association (TGJTA) Vichai Assarasakorn is optimistic that the Thai gems and jewelry industry has potential for growth.

The TGJTA president said that Thai jewelry exports in Q4 of last year grew by 18.04%, with an export value of 330 billion THB. His 2010 forecast expects 18% growth this year, worth 390 billion THB.

An association long term plan extending to the year 2015 has set sights to push the Kingdom's gems and jewelry export sector into the global top ten. To achieve this the industry will have to hold no less than 4% of the global market share with export value of 810 billion THB and 18% annual growth.

Yes of course it did, gold prices were very high and Thai people sold their gold and it was exported to places like Switzerland where it was sold to goldbugs speculating that gold would go to 2000$ an ounce.

This could hardly be considered as "growth" in this sector, rather a transfer of wealth out of the country.

A natural human trait, but if he thinks the numbers he is throwing around here are something to be genuinely excited by and mean real growth I say, as usual...

    Good luck with that!
