BANGKOK, 5th December 2017 (NNT) – The government is calling on all units to eliminate legal restrictions and promote the use of digital platforms so as to further elevate the country’s ranking in the ease of doing business.

Ms Areepan Charoensuk, Senior Advisor to the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission, disclosed that the government has instructed all state agencies to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the ranking for Thailand’s ease of doing business, which this year was placed by the World Bank at number 26, a remarkable jump from 46th place last year.

The advisor noted that all units are urged to increase people’s access to government services online while doing away with legal impediments within their organizations by rolling out new regulations or amending existing laws in order to facilitate business transactions.

According to Ms Areepan, one worrying issue is the World Bank’s plan to include public procurement as one of the factors to be considered in the ease of doing business ranking from next year onwards. She, however, expressed confidence that if each agency manages to increase the efficiency of its procurement system in compliance with the World Bank’s standards by May 31, 2018, the country’s ranking next time would be even better.
